i’ve been getting several free calendars from charities that want a donation (how about save money by not sending me this?), but this is going too far. Imagine, Your 2027 Calendar: “Have you remembered the Holocaust today?”

the calendar photos are of very small museum itemsthe calendar “tells inspiring stories”. not the word i would use

re the capped post. when you are in a dying town why dont you just agree to something that … won’t benefit you whatsoever? it’s not like you’re a farmer getting paid for a fracking lease, so there’s poisoned water on one side but money on the other. the data center doesn’t pay you

I think there's a broader takeaway for the left here, that Southern Black voters really, really care about the Voting Rights Act, and its restoration and expansion need to be a central plank of any serious candidate's 2028 platform to get through both the primary and the general

This is not a difficult point to understand, but is rarely explained in the media. ‘Race realism’ or ‘race science’ is comparable to a small network of flat-earther or anti-evolution academics publishing articles arguing for a flat earth or creationism, *in service of a doctrine of racism*

What’s funny here is the hillbilly part of my soul wants to see speeding as an innocent, libertarian crime like bootlegging, but living in a city has made me realize that disobeying traffic laws is more akin to violent crime because of the potential consequences to human life

Sharing from a friend, a passage from the Leveson Inquiry regarding the British actor Denholm Elliott, who died of AIDS in 1992. Three years after her death, the News of the World journalist Paul McMullan did the following to his daughter—neither a celebrity nor even someone of public interest.

BROOKE GLADSTONE: The Inquiry brought up the case of Denholm Elliott's daughter - PAUL McMULLAN: Oh, yeah - BROOKE GLADSTONE: - which is one case that you truly do regret. PAUL McMULLAN: I do, yeah. After Denholm died, she hit rock bottom, was allegedly doing methadone. And although she had, you know, the half-million-pound flat that Denholm had bought her, she didn't have any money to get her ten-pound bag in the morning. So she'd get up and go begging at the tube station. Here was a young girl crying out to be helped, and she met a police officer who didn't help her but rang up the News of the World and asked for money because he couldn't believe that this is the same girl who'd walked down the red carpet behind Eddie Murphy with Denholm Elliott, you know.

i try to remain blissfully unaware of whatever shenanigans are transpiring in england, but i learned that there are competing Brian Coxes when i saw an ad that Not the Actor Brian Cox was doing an event in Baltimore. it seems to amount to “feature length TED talk with more sophisticated visuals”?

Robin Ince was treated abominably by the BBC - and I’m glad to see him finally say explicitly what we all assumed, that Gia Milinovich, Brian Cox’s wife, was behind much of the harassment he received.

if you look back on, e.g., the Harper’s letter, it dropped at a time when a majority of the public supported burning down the Minneapolis Police precinct. it’s the reactionary centrists, not the public, who felt alienated.
