Just FYI I’m from a place with a long history of being condescended to by Calvinists, so yes I get a little snappy sometimes when they boast about toleration and liberalism somehow flowing directly from their theories.

I’d like to encourage the American fash to please alienate the white ethnics who had long since lost track of any social status gap between themselves and Anglos. Please by all means use that to campaign for Republicans in the Midwest and in Texas, it’ll totally help. (wtf is with these weirdos?)
Another datapoint for the fascist radicalisation of institutional pillars of much of the American Right
It really upset me when he said "those big hyphens." Oh my god. Has nobody read *anything* recently? At all?
For 170 years we've railed against the newcomers to protect what we love. But what we love about SF isn't the buildings - it's the people. SF is just Santa Barbara unless we always welcome the next generation of misfits
For over 170 years, every generation of San Franciscans has blamed the newer arrivals - the Irish, the Chinese, the gays, the techies - for disrupting our shangri-la. Our city, after all, was perfect before "they* arrived
This reminds me of Palantir repeatedly and quietly changing their code of conduct to enable whatever lucrative or ideologically convenient new projects went against it.
Tesla retroactively added 'supervised' to FSD contracts owners signed years ago
Tesla appears to have retroactively modified FSD purchase agreements to add 'supervised' language that wasn't there when owners signed. Some contracts are now inaccessible.

students in my anthro dept are mostly women and the cis girls are intensely protective of the trans girls, it’s very sweet. doesn’t mean they don’t mutually fuck up sometimes, but it’s heartwarming as hell regardless
It is good happening
Santa Monica, South Pasadena, Palo Alto, San Mateo, and now Atherton! All the places that used to (and still try to) severely limit or prohibit new multifamily homes. No longer! State housing laws get the goods! www.almanacnews.com/atherton/202...
Mamdani's anti-rat policies have many conservatives wondering if they are still welcome in such a hostile communist city
No idea if this is applies in this case but in many rural areas PP is the place to go for trans HRT.
Republicans may have failed to extend the one-year defund of Planned Parenthood, but the fallout continues: PP of Michigan is closing clinics in Lansing, Livonia and Warren
This is an interesting one; founded in 1922 as an effort to revive a national Belarusian Church, but forced into exile. Opposed by both the Belarusian government and the "official" Belorussian Orthodox Church, which is subordinated to Russia. This is the BAOC's metropolitan see. Note the flags.
No particular market movement can be directly attributed to a weekend decision because a weekend contains many events that influence Monday morning prices, right? So bombing after market close is totally rational if all you care about is headlines? (I hate this.)
Tradcath YouTube is so formulaic. One or two white American men, dressed in tweed or sometimes a cassock, green screened in front a lot of muted color hardcover books or maybe an old monastery, trying to look and sound Old World while denouncing Vatican II and the pope. Repeat ad nauseam.
Today I learned that pride in the Netherlands did *not* start because of Stonewall. It was later moved to June, but it started out with, of all people, Limburgers! Protesting bishop Gijsen in Roermond, who had been mouthing off to the press about the gays. www.historischnieuwsblad.nl/de-eerste-ro...
just do it like gerrit. gerrit worked.
if you were designing a stacked workflow from first principles, you would focus on atomic/bisectable commits as the unit of work, with interdiffs between versions to guide you. Basically what Gerrit, Phab and numerous other tools do. The lack of engagement with prior art continues to be frustrating
while such vile behavior is horrific and truly shameful for our community, I am also perversely relieved that my enemies are so overwhelmingly stupid. as Walt Whitman wrote, I contain multitudes
Drawing Belgian streets is way more fun than Dutch streets. The latter are way too uniform in shape, colour, street layout, differences in height and depth, window placement, etc. Also I do loooove brick, but only using my terracotta colours each drawing also gets boring.
I've said this before, but if scapegoating trans people was how the left and the right were able to come together and solve climate change, it would SUCK, but I would understand. But scapegoating trans people is the latest excuse that lets them ignore climate change - and that is so much worse.
Remember when people were putting up these warning signs about 2550 Irving in SF?
Residents finished moving into that building last week. sfyimby.com/2026/07/new-...

So apparently Ukraine or a close ally has, or at any rate recently had, some way of knowing what Russia is pointing their spy satellites at? And isn’t too worried about revealing such capabilities? I feel there’s layers to this …

Now can everyone stop going on about how Buttigieg is not really queer because his politics aren’t the right flavor of whatever? Disagree with him by any means! But this happens disproportionately to LGBTQ parents and we all know it and I resent the amount of reporting that doesn’t mention that.
“Vivek Sankaran, a professor at the University of Michigan Law School and child advocacy law expert, said he was troubled that Michigan State Police went to Buttigieg’s door with such a vague allegation that didn’t present any indication that children were imminently at risk.”
“We deserve better from democracy than wielding such fundamentally weak people against one another like drunk Pokémon.”
I don’t think I ever actually read this at the time and like, oh my @quinnae.com is good at prose. And also right. www.liberalcurrents.com/gender-graha...
