I recall we had a period of time where the response of Starmer and Cooper to concerns about these groups was ‘I like flags’
Leaders of flag-raising group Raise the Colours Oxfordshire placed trackers on highway workers’ cars to find out their home addresses, the High Court has heard. RTC then attempted to intimidate the highway staff into no longer removing flags by repeating their addresses to them.
This is a remarkably extreme statistic. Bordeaux, France has recorded more days >40°C in 2026 than in the entire 105 year period combined dating back to 1920 when records began. This summer has been so far above extreme it’s difficult to put into words. Chart: @WxNB_
This is 100% about women and girls as possessions. White men can do what they like with them, but if anyone else does it then they become damaged goods. We know the moral outrage that happens when someone of colour talks and behaves like this.
The Times, one of the leading voices when it comes to 'protecting women and girls' calling a man who assaulted his young pregnant girlfriend, said he would rape the kids if he was a teacher and called for child sex abuse porn to be legal, 'brilliant'
Trains from Oxford to Didcot and Paddington are being disrupted due to leaves on the line, except in this case the leaves are still attached to the tree. One line is still passable, but Network Rail warns disruption will be long-lasting since “the trunk has become entangled in lineside equipment”.
It's the only logical outcome of what this new CEO is prattling on about the Nazis aren't here now because whenever they show up they get put on a blocklist and banished the only way they stick around is if people are forced to engage with them
Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy? In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

I don’t buy lower quality brands because I can afford it. But it seems that many mid-market brands you could rely on for quality - British Airways, Ted Baker, Wagamama, Cadbury have downgraded their products significantly (the inedible slop food on BA)
Addendum- the eminent @anneapplebaum.wsocial.eu wrote a story in the Atlantic about this exact thing. It looks as though I was on point: Gift link: www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

www.irishtimes.com/world/africa... This is a total conspiracy theory, but I suspect the international fascist far right may have had a hand in this. No evidence, just IMO. Look at the timing: Nigel Farage’s election. US midterm election. Moroccan officials dialed in. Money buys anything.

At your next meal, take a second to think about the people working long hours in HOT 100° temps to put food on your table. They're not just statistics. They're real people who can't avoid the heat in an air conditioned house or office. #WeFeedYou
When urbanists take pictures of a Paris street (like Rue de Rivoli) showing all the people on bikes now taking advantage of protected infrastructure, it’s not just because we “like bikes.” It’s because we’re picturing the gridlock if they were driving cars. And the public cost, pollution, noise…
I won’t give the government grace on many things and they were too late on lockdowns but I don’t think you have to be like oh, we loved lockdown, to understand these were truly unprecedented and scary times where lots of unknowns were at play
Sensibles love to bullshit themselves that their both siding & just asking questions is some kind of ideology free neutral truth seeking. But we've seen exactly how this plays out for eg immigrants, the racialised, & trans people: every time, it strengthens the hand of far right crackpots

hard to believe this needs explaining, but if you say "you should X" to someone, the implication is that you know better than that person about how to live their own life, and a lot of people, including me, respond badly to that!
Just realized that I have done the reverse American. I assumed the person I was replying to was British when they are American.
