From a new Laserdisc rip of "Ultimate Teacher" (1988), probably one of the most unlikely Japanese OVA released on VHS in the West at the time.

For anyone interested, be aware that I offer the use of my equipment and services for LD and VHS digitization for a commission! Hit me up and I'll give my all to extract as much quality as possible out of these decades-old formats. Here's some raw, unfiltered VHS samples:

Out now on nyaa, a new rip of Kyoufu no Bio Ningen Saishuu Kyoushi, known in English as Ultimate Teacher, from the Japanese laserdisc release. Long only available from a rather ratty rip of the hardsubbed U.S. LD, this is the first clean public upload of the film. No more piss tint!

By the way, I've uploaded the full tape to nyaa. Railroad Tycoon was one of several titles advertised on this tape, albeit the only one to never see a release; all had quite a bit of effort put into their presentation.

Still got more Resident Evil-related material in the WIP pipeline—the "Birth of BIO HAZARD" tape is among one of those titles in there. It'll be a while before any of it is ready since I want these to be encoded as carefully as possible. I'll give updates as I go along. Probably.

I started playing Resident Evil for the first time back in April and have gotten hooked on the franchise since then. I recently discovered an unsubbed 7-min interview with Shinji Mikami earlier this month, so I went & added English subs to it.

Here's the first footage of the cancelled SNES/SFC port of Railroad Tycoon to ever be posted online, captured from my promotional tape made by the would-be Japanese publisher. For a long time, the only evidence of the game's existence was two blurry Nintendo Power screenshots!

Another major discovery from the batch of off-air tapes: The original Japanese broadcast of the series finale to Tonde Mon Pe! The only way to watch any episode of this TMS series until now was through low-quality Arabic-dubbed rips. Check out this amazing Yuzo Aoki OP, plus the original ads!

My newest, soon-to-be-released rip is of the OVA Cinderella Express, of which the old rip (left) sorely needed an upgrade. It is based on a manga from Hikaru Yuzuki, who also did Minna Agechau. It's quite the wild ride! Stay tuned.

Take the X Train (1987) - Gutsy Subs' 2018 LDrip vs. my 2023 LDrip vs. my 2026 LDrip It's amazing that all these screenshots come from the same LaserDisc, with improvements to video hardware and software making it possible to squeeze more detail out of a video format from 1978 as the years go by.

I got a new player... Thanks to its shorter laser wavelength, this player is much better at reading through disc scratches and rot. I may be able to encode some discs that were previously unusable before.

Haven’t really mentioned it here on Bluesky, but over the past couple years I’ve been working on/off on a scanning project for an obscure 1980s anime Oh! Family. I’ve obtained a number of 16mm rush prints for the series and I’ve been gradually getting them scanned for the past while.

My first completed game of 2026 was Ganbare Gorby! for the Sega Game Gear, starring everyone’s favorite Soviet leader. You operate switches and create bridges to deliver what people need, all while dodging enemies who try to hit you, shoot you, or steal the food. A very fun time!

While the HD master for Harmagedon/Genma Taisen is matted to widescreen, the LaserDisc release is open matte with a lot more shown on the top and bottom. Despite being made for theaters, I found many shots to be better framed for 4:3 than widescreen. Stay tuned!

Screenshots from a short film based on a story by Akiyuki Nosaka (author of Grave of the Fireflies) and directed by Yoshio Kabashima (animation director on Ace o Nerae, Gamba no Bouken, Mystery of Mamo). It was never released on home video or made available online. Stay tuned...

Who's the joker who vandalized the Wikipedia page for Quarterback Attack with Mike Ditka by putting Nobuo Uematsu as the composer? What motivates a person to do this?
