It’s a personal question as difficult to answer as “what makes good art?” I don’t have the definitive answer, but I do have an answer. A good GM invests in the characters and shows how their actions change the world, e.g @juddthelibrarian.bsky.social
I've got something in my brain about #ttrpg players and parasocial relationships, but I'm not in the right headspace. We've all witnessed the rise in a parasocial relationship with D&D5e alone, buoyed by Critical Role and a few key others. But that pales in the shadow of Vampire: The Masquerade.
One other thing: i often write simply to work out what I think about something. But if I ask a machine to write it... what do I think? Who is actually making the judgements in the work? Slippery and uneasy terrain.
You know, as long as theres toast, coffee, and wifi in the Backrooms they sound like exactly the kind of place I'd enjoy going on holiday in.
I mean, it's easy to call someone the definitive Miss Marple just because they were the best in the role and have never been equalled.

If Bluesky was an echo chamber we"d not have had a day of people disagreeing about #ttrpg crits and fumbles in and outside of combat, nor of armed fa tions literally killing each other on the street about banning phones at gaming tables.
Just spent 30 minutes trying to make some scales tell me how fat I am. I ended up having to download an app to make them tell me it in kilograms. Why is this the cyberpunk future we have settled on? Why?? BRB just off outside to shake fist at clouds.

OG Dark Sun had some seriously cool, *very relevant* themes (life under tyranny, life after genocide, life after ecocide) + bondage glam rock Jojo-pose aura-farming. This new stuff is busy-gore + generic metal + cyberpunk (???) Urgh.
I don’t exactly have scientific data to support this, but I firmly believe that the reading experience is enhanced by at least 62% when a pet is sleeping nearby.
#ttrpg pitch: Swyvers, but everyone is tommy-gun wielding crustaceans. That's it. That's the pitch.
