Oh hey, the first half of chapter 2 is up, and it's FREE. Sparks are already flying between my two main characters, and not in a good way. Also, there's a kind of evil horse that makes an appearance... www.patreon.com/MichaelJaspe...

Chapter Two, Part One: Heart's Revenge (a serial novel) | Michael Jasper

The novel serialization experiment continues! I decided to make this half free -- the first half of each chapter is open to everyone, while

There's a song I'd love to play & sing. I got the sheet music & started working on it, then discovered that one of my kids had a traumatic memory associated with the song & an ex with consent issues. I threw away the sheet music. There are plenty of other songs. This is a post about Harry Potter.

TFW you start troubleshooting what you think is a minor glitch accessing your website only to discover that you may have accidentally deleted the entire database attached to it in one of your "omg my backend is a mess" cleaning sprees.... 🙃

I'm just here to say today that querying is hard. There's no way around it if you're unagented. It's hard on the soul and on one's patience. Just keep at it. If you decide to go with self-publishing, godspeed. That, too, is difficult. Persistence and discipline are the marrow of luck.

It bugs me that we're normalising the idea that there's something wrong with long documents, or that they're not "worth" our time. There is huge value in careful thought, in detail and nuance, in exploration, and in the experiential journey that goes alongside that.

I feel like I’m losing my mind. The president of the United States is promising $5000 payouts if his party wins the midterms, and the discussion in the media is “but what about the deficit” rather than “vote buying is illegal”?

I know things are tight right now for just about everyone, which is why I wanted to let you know if you're looking for a little light escapism, An Embarrassment of Itches (Ginny Reese Mysteries Book 1) is 99 cents on most digital platforms AND the rest of the series is on Hoopla. (1st book in limbo)

Every day in every way, we're being told we're doomed. Unsustainable climate change. Unsafe, unstable food chain. Dwindling resources. Fine. Go out like a comet then. Make your art, be your most authentic, wacky self. Find your community and support it. Continue to make things. Take joy in it.

ME: Okay, so a coral snake looks like that and a kingsnake looks like—FUCK, it’s AI, I need a different image… KEVIN: *facepalm* SNAKE: Ooh, is this Fiestaware? Hijinks ensue as we attempt to get the cardboard under our new friend.

Just a note that Governor Newsom has still not signed SB 868 allowing Californians to have balcony solar panels without paying interconnection fees, and it is worth your time to send a note to the Governor's office urging him to sign. Balcony solar panels are a safe way to increase clean energy use.

Friday morning, I was gardening when I checked my phone. A request had gone out for help. For 25+ hours, ICE had been laying siege to a quiet neighborhood in Frederick, MD. Community members were afraid, some didn’t want to leave their homes. ICE vehicles seemed to be lurking on every corner.

ICE vehicle - black Nissan Maxima with plate cover - posted up in a spot that also serves as an elementary school bus stop. Another ICE vehicle, black Dodge Durango, lurking around the community. Two more ICE vehicles - black Dodge Durango and a white SUV, unclear on make, model - on a quiet residential street, being quietly creepy. Note that the white SUV has its plate covered. Yet another ICE vehicle. Black Nissan Pathfinder. They were all over the neighborhood.

I would like to report on the literary agents who are claiming a percentage of their clients' Anthropic settlement. But I need some authors willing to share info about who these agents are (privately - no need to go on the record). Reach out: hello@janefriedman.com
