STOP CLICKING ON THINGS ON DISCORD UNLESS YOU LIKE LOSING YOUR ACCOUNTS TO EXPLOITS EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! WHY ARE THEY ASKING TO PLAY MINECRAFT, WATCH ANIME, OR TO PLAY THEIR NEW GAME THE MADE IF YOU KNOW THEY DON'T DO ANY OF THOSE THINGS

They genuinely want to silence the population, I hope that's clear. Age verification is partly blame avoidance for social media platforms, partly surveillance state garbage, and largely just class warfare. They want you to be silent, uninformed, and disconnected. Fight. Fight like hell.

European Digital Identity

Social media bans cannot be effectively enforced, and come with profound implications for everyone's human rights. Nevertheless the EU and Irish government seem hell bent on pushing through similar legislation here, without presenting a shred of evidence that such a ban will have a positive impact.

Australia’s eSafety commissioner buried a report (released Friday afternoon) that shows the under 16 social media ban didn’t tangibly reduce teen social media use, and also resulted in parents tuning out of kids usage. We traded our privacy for no reason. theconversation.com/more-than-80...

I really want to say things about this but I don't feel like my voice matters much. I will say that this thread points to why competition is so difficult though; streaming sites are EXPENSIVE to run. Without ample cash to burn, most will fail to even get off the ground.

Twitch's Former Chief Product Officer says the Discovery and Ads teams were once at war over Feed impressions (solved), and that Twitch streams with fewer than 1000 viewers are dead weight (since entertainment economics runs on ad rates). Very interesting historical insight!

The comparison to his Twitch years is the sharpest part. At Twitch, a stream under a thousand viewers was dead weight, because entertainment economics run on CPMs — ad rates per thousand viewers. On Whatnot, a seller with 50 people in a stream is like a shoe-store owner with 50 people in the shop: "you'd literally never shut down the store." He felt the cultural difference in his second week, when a seller complained on camera that the seven-second "sudden death" auction timer was too slow and wanted three seconds. Two engineers in the office heard it, changed a config in real time, and told the seller to refresh the app. "I'm with my people," he remembers thinking.

It’s not really about crime, it’s about control: it's about arresting people who protest against government abuse and crimes; it is about following political dissidents to and from rallies; it is about monitoring reproductive health care facilities; it is about attending the correct churches.

New FBI data shows case closure rates for the Atlanta Police Department have not improved despite thousands of ALPRs installed since 2021.

This whole thing is just so astronomically stupid and honestly just exists because, rather than respect that parents need to be present in their kid's life, the system we live with would rather chain us to work and debt forever. Want to protect kids? Higher wages, more paid parental leave. Cowards.

A genuinely irredeemable act on the part of Amnesty, in that in addition to permanently shattering any sense of safety or reliability oppressed groups might have found from them in the face of adversity, it also yielded them nothing because Rowling intends to continue suing them anyway.

Amnesty International correctly called out Rowling's transphobia. She threatened them in response. And @amnesty.org surrendered. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Yes, this is 100% about censorship in general, and the current anti-sexual weirdness that’s going on. But a paragraph near the end of the article is especially telling… ASMR is primarily created by women. Women doing anything will always be perceived by some as inherently sexual (excerpt in comms)

The way genAI is being forced into our lives, and the way we're being told that everything must become training data, is such a massive consent issue that I can only imagine the people endorsing the decision have issues respecting consent in other aspects of life. Just...sit with that a while.

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
