🚨 KOSA UPDATE The added "duty of care" standard would force websites to identify minors to avoid legal risk, pushing the internet toward ID checks, facial scans, mass age-gating, excessive data collection and censorship FOR EVERYONE. Next comes a full Senate vote. Contact your senators NOW. (1/2)

The Senate Commerce Committee just passed KOSA out of committee with zero debate & failed to move the SCREEN Act. punchbowl.news/article/tech...

I like the new Pokémon Sleep Rest Island functionality, but the one thing I don't like is that to get there, you have to pan over to the sign in the lower right of the main island every time.

just said this on another post but it bears repeating: the thing about continuing to give money to any jk rowling properties or the nyt is not that they’re shitty about trans people, which they are. it is that both of these entities MATERIALLY CONTRIBUTE to the legal challenges to trans rights

This is *EXACTLY* why what Ken said was dangerous. If he was some smol beans account it would still have been fucking disgusting but faded into obscurity But Ken’s a celebrity. And he provided ammunition for monsters and essentially doxxed a trans woman making her a subject of international news

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

JK Rowling funding her trans exterminationist campaigns by selling children's books to liberals 🤝 the NYT funding their trans exterminationist campaigns by selling puzzle games and recipes to liberals (and also for both, cis people will get really upset at trans people asking them not to)

In other words, NYT is increasingly becoming a gaming and recipe company, with revenue from that business helping subsidize the higher costs of their journalism (which has been weaponized in favor of trans genocide). They depend on liberals not caring enough to boycott them.

Any of you using the ios version of Patreon to support me, switch to the browser version instead, cuz the apple fees have actually taken over 3000 usd from me in the course of a year

Confirmed I didn't mess up the 10 minute cycle on the background changer*! *There's probably some added overhead that makes it slightly longer than 10 minutes, but I don't know if I feel like getting the processing delta t per 15s cycle in order to make it exactly 10 minutes.

Things like seemingly harmless NYT consumption are big deals to trans people because transphobia, despite being intense and escalating these days, is an oppression often rendered invisible. Trans people are used to being abandoned by cis people, so even small abandonments have an impact.

Y'know I think the thing about "trans people aren't a monolith" is that it's not explicitly permission to go and do whatever controversial thing you were thinking of doing, or, at the very least, you should be smart and realize that the rest of the "not a monolith" will hate it.

Stayed up late messing with my script, and I still have to double check I haven't broken the 10 minute cycle by introducing new frequency/polling logic, but I can confirm that the "switch to my copyright-safe hexgrid while OBS is open, and back to the image shuffle when it closes" absolutely works!

So I decided to test the new environment out by running the Hardiboiled quests, and it occurred to me to pull up OBS and do a test record. Dunno if it's the switch to Proton 11 or something else changed, but I'm not seeing the graphical issue, which is a real motivation boost for a planned vid!

(Ok yes I'm using Windows as a crutch for the initial setup; I'm not so confident that I can start from the exe installer. But I'm also doing this on the shared drive because I've previously had graphical issues when recording on Linux and want it shared if I spontaneously decide to stream.)

For a while I've been relying on the FFXIV free trial version to easily play on Linux with ProtonGE 10-34, but I'm a bit more confident about how steam commands and wineprefixes work, so I'm gonna attempt installing the standalone version and running that on Valve Proton 11.
