For my first blog post, I've written some thoughts on open-source, StratosFund, and financial sustainability paths for Atproto. I hope it gets some interesting conversations started. #offprint https://the-better-future.offprint.app/a/3mkommpvxr523-a-better-open-source-future

Shoutout to @timtinkers.online, @natalie.sh, @iame.li, and @almostzoey.bsky.social for making my first stream so great today! Thanks for watching me struggle through OBS studio 😂 Today was setup. Will plan another recorded stream to talk atproto economic sustainability ideas soon!
This pattern of people building cool things and then launching them/demoing them on @stream.place is lit and should continue
Now he has a whole world to slide around in. 🥰 #atproto #GameDev

Would you be interested? I'm considering doing a live stream on @stream.place place to discuss sustainable business model paths for projects on AtProto. I have some ideas, and I'm also very curious to hear what other people are thinking

Random thought: How many relays would need to be running before the PDS's would start to be overwhelmed with socket connections?
Now, imagine if Bluesky went down and never came back up again. But you log into Blacksky like nothing happened. You 🫵🏾 are used to your friendships and connections being lost because of a corporation’s actions. The collective AT Protocol project is to demonstrate otherwise. Tell a friend.
Everyone is debating over Attie and how Blue Sky didn’t talk about how it would hurt Graze in the announcement. Ok I get that, but what’s wild to me is how few of people are talking about @spacecowboy17.bsky.social and the for you feed
At #AtmosphereConf last week, this was a big unanswered question: “How can AtProto apps make money sustainably that retains the values of this great community?!? No VC, Grants, or Loans!” I definitely have a conversation starter, and maybe a solution. Stay tuned 👀📺
Permissioned data is here, today, serving communities, creating space and agency. It just wasn’t done by the people you first think about. @blackskyweb.xyz and @transrights.northsky.social build against real, current need. #AtmosphereConf Great talk @kandake.africa
So what @sebastian.eurosky.social couldn't show you all in the demo was the redesign I've just done on the @eurosky.social portal with all the apps listed:
🚨 the ecosystem is delicate #atmosphereconf there's a LOT of enthusiasm + talent, but: - no magical investor monies - grant options are THIN - many first time founders - many don't want investment - few other options - scary macro env it's a collective challenge we can just pay for things?
Founders+Funders session at #atmosphereconf was a rollicking broad-ranging session thx @bmann.ca @ricardo.bsky.social for organizing below are some themes/observations we need to talk a LOT more about funding to achieve an Atmosphere where builders have stable housing, food to eat, and healthcare
So excited to be in Vancouver for #AtmosphereConf! Looking forward to meeting all the great giants who’s shoulders I stand on 🤩🤩🤩 @bmann.ca @ngerakines.me @baileytownsend.dev @knowtheory.net @kandake.africa @danabra.mov @rude1.blacksky.team @tessa.germnetwork.com @flo-bit.dev and so many more!!!
Incredible. Though, of course, due to current setup, any records are public on atproto, and feels like @aetheros.computer should be more upfront in alerting people about that so people don't store private info this way. But this with permissioned data could be really interesting.
Ok. Messing around with this, and I repeat: this is amazing.
Building in the atmosphere means you don't have to go it alone. We know organizers, and the groups-of-coordination they facilitate, require digital infrastructure for events planning. Ergo @roomy.space needs Events. @tompscanlan.bsky.social agreed and magicked @openmeet.net straight into Roomy.

I want people to be comfortable paying for an atproto account (ie. space on a PDS) It’s the bedrock of everything we’re building; if it’s not funded it’ll get squeezed in ways that are bad for users (hi Gmail) We should normalise having (very cheap) paid-tier PDS accounts on the services we build
I would love if the if the home page would be a "Welcome to the Atmosphere" type of explainer page that could appeal to non-tech people. If your non-techy, there would be simple "One account to have open access to all these apps" messaging, and a "for developers" that links to this site
We've been hard at work on a new website with new guides, better docs, more translations, even our very own blog. We think it looks pretty sharp, too. It's now easier than ever to just build things with AT Protocol. atproto.com
@alex.bsky.team and @jimray.bsky.team are my heroes. the new atproto.com is absolutely amazing and the best part is how filled to the brim it is with real code examples and documentation. If I had this when I was starting out in atproto, i would have saved so much frustration and confusion.
New AT Protocol website coming! It looks fancy! Highlights building apps, bots/agents, and feeds. Highlights developer features: json, strongly typed, hyperlinked, and more! Has a live firehose! Then there's lots of documentation and tutorials. "We can just build things"
Emerging from being "down in the technical weeds" of #atproto is a little mashup of @semble.so & WayFinder (www.wayfinders.network) Semble team released "open collections" this week - here we explore the "private & permissioned data" collection, created by @bmann.ca & now with 3 other contributors
