Red panda in the Upper Midwest. Not that kind of attorney. Archaeology fan. Proportional representation. Linz was right. Senatus delendus est. Advocate of Nordic economic model. Reskeets /= endorsements.

Eventually a combination of historians, naval architects and deep-pocketed funders decided there was only one way to settle it. Build one and do experiments. No blueprints as such, but plenty of bits of broken pot as a starting point for the design. So they built Olympias. Sexy little craft.

Reconstructed Athenian trireme 'Olympias' on sea trials.

The complaints about taxes at the end of New Vegas make me insane! Sorry it's expensive to maintain the standing army to protect you from the raiders, super mutants, and ghouls who all live within 100 yards of your town, guess we should have built a personalist regime around me

but elon musk demonstrated that you could just... run them indefinitely rather than procure clean power & as long as you paid your bribes to the government or just rapid unscheduled disassembl-ied the regulator, then nothing would happen to you. and then everyone else started doing it as a result.

"Who could have predicted that anti-wokeness was Trojan Horse for reactionary politics?" Anyone who paid attention to what the leaders of the anti-woke movement were saying and doing. As I wrote in 2023:

The end of Reconstruction and the rise of Jim Crow depended upon the exact type of elite consensus that non-white folks had gone too far in calling for equality, that we are living through. It does not bode well for the future, even if the GOP is routed in the next couple of elections.

I think part of the pundit crack-up has been that they missed the big call of their lifetimes about which was the bigger threat to America: wokeness or authoritarianism. And rather than admitting that, they are doubling down on wokeness, while ignoring an authoritarianism that does not threaten them

I've said this 100 times before and I'll say it again: the success of the Minnesota resistance, which continues to this day, comes from its relentless discipline. By refusing to do anything illegal, it has forced ICE and DHS to resort to dubious secret-police tactics and/or impotent fuming.

Zelensky Voice: "Big strong guys with couch fetishes like Vance, just coming up to me with tears in their eyes and eyeliner running down their cheeks, saying "please Mr. President, don't blow up any more Russian tankers, my V-8s can't take the price hikes and EVs are woke and gay.""

The White House normally gets $2.5 million a year for maintenance. Trump’s team has allocated $875 million.   That’s 350 years’ worth of the usual budget spent by a single administration.
