I feel like social media constantly reminds us why courts and rule of law and their ability to proportionately sanction were such massive improvements for everyone. the mob can only venerate or destroy.
I'm perplexed. This year, we've watched multiple Black authors lose book deals, face scrutiny, and endure reputational damage because of AI accusations. And now this tragedy. The question is, are we going to sit back and allow scientific racism to be resurrected and returned to the mainstream?

If you’re grabbed by someone wearing “shock gloves”…your body may convulse involuntarily. It could look like you’re resisting arrest when in reality, you’re in medical distress. The appearance of resistance will embolden ICE to use lethal force. These gloves will kill people.

These gloves don't cause neuromuscular incapacitation the way that a taser does. In fact, they only work when applied directly to bare skin. These aren't made for apprehending anyone. These have one and only one use: causing extreme pain to already-restrained captives. In plain language: torture.

In part because it feels unsophisticated for professional take-havers to just say, for example, "Elon Musk is a white supremacist." But it is actually that simple.
Elon gave a Nazi salute at Trump’s inauguration. Even if you do an exhaustive analysis and find that it was an extemporaneous gesture that wasn’t intentionally a Nazi salute, it’s *still* truer to just say that it was a Nazi salute, on account of all the explicitly Nazi stuff he has done/wants to do

The story was as much about academic accountability as GamerGate was about ethics in games journalism.
