Can't sleep. Gotta rant. There was a time when the Democratic party's core belief was that the government should do everything it could to alleviate people's suffering. We got the New Deal, Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, SSI, Food Stamps, TANF, and much more from that party.

TJ@tjsls.bsky.social · 2mo agoI nuked the alt account and the content. Few reasons for this. A) I felt increasingly like I’m in a bubble…a circle jerk. Posts I wanted to actually help do VA stuff got no traction, shit posting got tons B) I find myself fighting a lot with people on “my side” this seems counter productive.
Lee Atwater was evil, but he understood this point perfectly. Mike Dukakis started the 1988 campaign with a 17-point-lead but Atwater leaned in on the weekend furlough of William Horton, bragging that his negative ad blitz was going to "make Willie Horton his running mate." It worked.

A watchdog says basic cybersecurity safeguards weren’t fully in place. One worker even sent names + payments data across the gov. Another got power to edit it.
Here's what's really troubling about this, regardless of whether you think releasing the report would be worthwhile or not: Ken Martin's whole point seems to be that there were a lot of lessons to be learned from the autopsy, but releasing it would create circular fire squads. 🧵

In 1987 Gary Larson published a Far Side cartoon of two chimpanzees grooming, in which one discovers a blonde hair and says, "Conducting a little more 'research' with that Jane Goodall tramp?"[127] The Jane Goodall Institute called the cartoon an "atrocity" in a letter drafted by its lawyers to Larson and his syndicate. Goodall, who was in Africa at the time, later found the cartoon amusing.[128]
She went on to name it her favourite depiction of herself in pop culture.[129] Larson offered profits from sales of a shirt featuring the cartoon to the Jane Goodall Institute.[130]
Goodall wrote the preface to The Far Side Gallery 5, detailing her version of the controversy.[131] She praised Larson's creative ideas, which often compare and contrast the behaviour of humans and animals.
