One thing I wish people would realize is just how central JK Rowling is to the entire anti-trans ecosystem. Looking at a network node analysis of the top 200 anti-trans X accounts, she is the most central figure spanning both sides of the Atlantic from Republicans to Labour.

The 13th annual international Gender Census 2026 is now open until at least 13th August 2026! survey.gendercensus.com It's for anyone whose gender (or lack thereof) isn't described by the M/F binary. It's short and easy, and results are useful in academia, business and self-advocacy. #LGBTQ
@queerliblib.bsky.social any info on how long the site will be down? Asking for an eager Libby borrower (me, I mean me). I'm getting the account verification error/website under construction as of 21:20 UTC-4
really wish anyone would care about this. please just have a website and put information on it
PSA to people on Instagram: people who don’t have Instagram can’t see your posts! They see a login prompt. That information about your business or your event? Literally inaccessible
Happy Pride Month. If you know a young person (age 13-26) in the US who is getting their access to queer library books restricted because of local small-minded folks, please refer them to the Books Unbanned program. More people should know about it. #pride booksunbanned.com/card

This reminded me of something - have looked it up: JBS Haldane, 'The Universe is not only queerer than we suppose, but queerer than we can suppose' in Possible Worlds, 1927, when 'queer' presumably did not have quite the connotations it would now. Even so....
Math is discovered, but what we know of math is limited by WHAT we can discover. It is entirely possible that the universe is far larger and stranger than our brains can encompass.

'Tis the season of New Year's resolutions! But, if you, like me, are guessing that 2026 will be full of uncertainty and disruption I'd offer a slight twist. Think about how, in the year to come, you can invest in your coping capacity.

Can't believe the billionaires looked at the internet and was like "you know what this place needs? more noise to drown out the signal" and then got everyone they knew to put all their dollars on the signal-drowning machine.
I saw a tragically AI-generated version of this poster, so I have recreated a 100% human-made version for all your protest sign needs.
Please use alt text. For the obvious reason—that’s enough reason to do it, put on the setting that reminds you—but also because the words used in alt text work with filters.

Only 120,000 of us have blocked this fucker? C'mon y'all, we can do WAY better than that.
Advocate 20 Jun 25 - After joining BlueSky in an unsuccessful attempt at high-profile lib-trolling, VP Vance has become the most blocked account on B/S with ~120k blocks while gaining only ~10k followers. @rikiwilchins.bsky.social

Em dashes are prevalent in professional writing and LLMs were largely trained on stolen professional writing, therefore LLMs use em dashes. In the name of God, stop talking like Skynet has its own house style.

Despite coming from NYT, this is one of the most comforting and galvanizing things I've seen in the last few weeks.
From @ezrakleinbot.bsky.social. "If you’re always consumed by the next outrage, you can’t look closely at the last one. The impression of Trump’s power remains; the fact that he keeps stepping on rakes is missed. The projection of strength obscures the reality of weakness. Don’t believe him."
Actually, this is important enough to bring out of replies to the top level: if you're in the US and active on social media, and ESPECIALLY politically active, this is a simple step you can take to mitigate the possibility of legal action against you destroying your life.
(And a lot of those "ways it could be improved" are things ordinary people can defend themselves against: I strongly recommend everyone have an umbrella rider on their home/renters insurance that covers defamation liability, for instance, which can make a WORLD of difference)
Hey, so if you’d rather just see most recent replies to skeets it’s pretty easy: you’ll go to Content and Media and change the setting back to “Newest replies first," because it defaults to this new “hotness” thing.
📢 1.95 is rolling out now (2/6) With this release, you can now display replies by “hotness,” which weights liked replies that are more recent more heavily.
