I know I know I shouldn't be amplifying them but I can't help love the slogans on the windows etc
I love re-upping this: for decades the main library at UCLA had the generic name University Research Library because the person most responsible for getting it built was an English professor named Hugh G. Dick and the university refused to name it after him.
Tell me a fun fact.
The U.S. FDA announced 46 recalls in August alone. That includes food products and drugs— a notable increase from August 2025 when it was 26 products. That's why it's more important than ever to share links to sources, and to click through and read the article. The headline alone won't suffice.

Here’s a list of every food item that faced a recall in August.

I am going to die of old age waiting for labour to realise they need to inspire folks, that they need to be a brave progressive workers party on the left. Contesting an election based on being afraid of national criticising them didnt work last time, wont work this time.
It sometimes feels like Elon Musk is a performance artist, playing the role of a stupid clown that gets dunked on over and over again as a statement about something profound. But he really is that fucking inept.
lol
Do any Floridian ornithologists follow me? I'm looking for three birds that eat caterpillars and might get fooled by a giant swallowtail's poop mimicry. I've narrowed them down to Painted Bunting, Northern Mockingbird, and Red-winged Blackbird. Are those good choices?
i think reporters owe it to the NZ public to stop using euphemisms like "unusual" or adding 'humanising' details to soften what these public figures are doing - associating with extremists and calling their political opponents "barely human". This is very clearly fascist behaviour.

Pretty stoked that the mātuhituhi Stead's bush wren made an appearance on Radio New Zealand's Critter of the Week. This sadly and recently extinct (only 1972!) songbird helped shape modern conservation practice in NZ & is a poignant reminder of what's at stake www.rnz.co.nz/national/pro...

I also remember bean counters arguing that UQ could not afford to keep plant pathology as a course because it only attracted/ generated less than 10 grads a year. Our answer was always how many graduates does the State need? Zero was not the answer. Bean counting as your only decision tool sucks
This was identified as an issue by plant pathologists in QLD 30 years ago. They struggled to keep their jobs at UQ and struggled to get funding. The reliance on Cavendish bananas is on the industry’s head. 1/

Regardless of one's political affiliation/positionality or tribalism, there's one quote that often sticks with me (and honestly, there's some pretty left-wing folks for whom this applies to) in regards to such situations: “I don’t know how to explain to you that you should care about other people”.
A liberal is a conservative who just got mugged by the police
I’d be fine not voting if they took away the requirement to lodge taxes when I haven’t been to the states in over 20 years
UPDATE: Republicans have appealed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of allowing eligible overseas U.S. citizens to vote in Nebraska elections to the state supreme court. The lawsuit is part of the GOP’s strategy to perpetuate claims of ineligible voters casting ballots in U.S. elections.

this is borderline abusive & anti-human. you don't just magically get handed a job when you finish school, and few places want to hire school-leavers with no employment experience. give young people a fair chance for heaven's sake, not to mention their parents www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

If you have a Gmail account, you need to read this. Google's AI now scans your emails and attachments, bank statements, tax files, medical letters, all of it. It turned on by default, and there's a class-action lawsuit over how. Here are 5 moves to shut it off, the switch is hidden in two places:
Stopping 18-19 year olds "languishing on welfare" by making them ineligible for welfare is very "trees are the cause of forest fires."
Aw come on guys, if we're going to do "what happened to literacy", the Butlerian Jihad was the event which led to the 10000 years of oppression and stagnation of the Imperium. It is a Macguffin to make knife fighting witches happen in galactic shithole feudalism. Dune is NOT an anti-AI story.
