I love re-upping this: for decades the main library at UCLA had the generic name University Research Library because the person most responsible for getting it built was an English professor named Hugh G. Dick and the university refused to name it after him.

Do any Floridian ornithologists follow me? I'm looking for three birds that eat caterpillars and might get fooled by a giant swallowtail's poop mimicry. I've narrowed them down to Painted Bunting, Northern Mockingbird, and Red-winged Blackbird. Are those good choices?
i think reporters owe it to the NZ public to stop using euphemisms like "unusual" or adding 'humanising' details to soften what these public figures are doing - associating with extremists and calling their political opponents "barely human". This is very clearly fascist behaviour.

I also remember bean counters arguing that UQ could not afford to keep plant pathology as a course because it only attracted/ generated less than 10 grads a year. Our answer was always how many graduates does the State need? Zero was not the answer. Bean counting as your only decision tool sucks
This was identified as an issue by plant pathologists in QLD 30 years ago. They struggled to keep their jobs at UQ and struggled to get funding. The reliance on Cavendish bananas is on the industry’s head. 1/
