My mom sent me some papers that belonged to my grandfather, Darwin Randall Crum, which included a collection of “Disfrustrating Puzzles” he created

Photo of a bound folder labeled “Disfrustrating puzzles and diversions for people who don't have time for the hard ones"COIN ARRAY PUZZLE
You have nine coins, arranged as shown below. Which coin can you remove, (being careful not to touch the others), so that only eight coins remain?
[Drawing of nine coins]DISCONNECT THE DOTS PUZZLE
If you very carefully erase the lines which connect the dots you will find a common household pet waiting to catch a mouse. Be sure you erase only the lines connecting consecutive numbers. (Hint: Start at number one.)

If Billy pulls down on the rope, will the 100 lb weight move up or down?

I urge you to maximize passive measures for your shelters to make the dependence on AC as low as possible. This graph shows that a realitvely cheap straw bale passiv house insulation measure can practically almost decouple you from the outside temperatures for a while, with conscious design choices.

Diagram Y axis Temperature, X axis time of day.
Red line is outside Temperature swing sinus curve between 34 and 16 degrees Celsius.
Blue temperature inside is 'decoupled' from outside through the right insulation, in this case straw.

Pre-reminder to shop for a new phone plan at the end of November during Black Friday. Don’t shop now. No loyalty! Change carriers just to spite them and make them try and earn you back! Fuck them all!

Every time I read a research paper about minimizing energy costs I feel like the energy field should be asking: why are we designing energy systems around what people can manage to pay, instead of around what people actually need energy to do (i.e. refrigeration, heating, cooling, telecom)?

Most people don’t realise that you don’t actually need fired bricks to build masonry houses. That’s why bricklayers aren’t called ‘bricklayers of fossil-fuelled fired bricks’. Don’t let yourselves become dependent on them – you have excellent jobs and skills. #earthbuilding

The other day, I got a press release claiming that ER visits among kids linked to e-bike crashes had increased *19.1 times over* in just 3 years. It almost certainly isn't true —  but the injured children are very real. Broke down what's really causing the bloodshed and who can finally stop it.

...and what we can do to protect our kids *and* the e-bike revolution.

A reminder, because it is almost that time of year: More children are killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year, by far. www.vox.com/future-perfe... If you're a parent, I hope you'll do what you can to keep kids safe. If you're driving on Saturday, PLEASE exercise extra caution.

A graph from Vox titled "Halloween is the deadliest day of the year for child pedestrians" with a graph showing a huge spike at October 31.

…and it doesn’t and they don’t. Developing 100 units? In the US that’ll get one, maybe two elevators. In Switzerland they’re cheap so they’ll break the site up into separate point access blocks and buy eight elevators.
