Judge David Carter: "Never before in American history has the federal government, on the eve of an election, sought to coerce a state and local government … the Executive would have this Court believe that it reigns as a sole sovereign. But California and its people are sovereign, too."

Reuters: JUSTICE DEPARTMENT LOSES INITIAL BID TO BLOCK CALIFORNIA FROM COUNTING MAIL BALLOTS FROM ALLEGED NONCITIZENS

of all the people and entities I used to love who are now fully AI-pilled, this is one of the ones that breaks my heart the most. their ENTIRE REASON FOR EXISTENCE was to democratize human art making and insist that writing a novel was something any of us could do

Lili Saintcrow@lilithsaintcrow.com · 5d ago

So, wait, has NaNoWriMo rebranded as "Novel November", paid for by ProWritingAid, which used to be a spell/grammar checker but now is (you guessed it) an "'AI' grammar checker"--in short, yet another way for a griftslop machine to grab human-written text? Do I have that right?

I'm so serious: Jezebel is a ghost ship with two writers, no dedicated editor, and a crazed money guy who pushed out the co-founder of Paste and is now deleting an untold number of articles with "abortion," "porn" or "rape" in the headline. this feels cringe but someone buy it to #SaveJezebel

Susan Rinkunas@susanrinkunas.com · 6mo ago

Jezebel will turn 20 next year. If the site is going to survive, someone has to buy it from the big dummy with the keys. One option: make it its own LLC and get a fiscal sponsor. Another: do a robust subs program like @theonion.com (Hi Ben). Ads ain't it Signal chat me for the dummy's email address

The owner of Jezebel, Bill Sagan of Paste Media, also removed Jia Tolentino's seminal 2016 interview with a New York woman who had to leave the state for an abortion at 32 weeks due to a fetal diagnosis. Someone who knows Jezebel's worth needs to buy it from this man www.jezebel.com/interview-wi...

Jezebel’s new owner is reportedly deleting old blogs that aren’t “brand safe,” which means that this very timely investigation I did into a sketchy reality TV producer pushing a rape lawsuit against Trump is seemingly just gone. When I click the link it just goes to their homepage

Screenshot of a Google search result of a Jezebel headline that reads “here’s how that wild lawsuit accusing Trump of raping a 13-year-old…”

We’ve embraced this technology with functionally no plan in place and I am reminded of this every day when I see single use vapes on the ground that I know have lithium ion packs in them.

Battery fires are a structural issue. There’s functionally no public messaging on where to properly dispose of this stuff even in ideal conditions and certification is all over the place functionally, so it ends up hurting people who have to rely on this stuff to live. L

Fires caused by the lithium-ion batteries used in e-bikes are up 41 percent in 2026 as the city slow-walks safe, outdoor charging and storage initiatives that have been in the works for years. buff.ly/ewOY4tn

The NY Times will publish a hit piece on the Democratic Alaska senate candidate six days before an Election but won't mention a new rape allegation against the President of the United States.

this post is one of my favorite pieces of nonfiction writing and it was an honor to get to read it!

On this week's episode of In Your Spare Time, author Jared Pechaček (@vandroidhelsing.bsky.social) reads post 29, "Without Egg." Here, Ursula takes a specific memory—asking for her breakfast “Ohne Ei" in Vienna in the 50s—& spins it into a whole journey involving recipes, egg cups, & multitasking.

I do think it’s funny when the current pope is like “that’s not how this should work” and people are like “uh buddy that’s what the church has BEEN DOING” as if he doesn’t know that. as if that might not be why he’s saying it now

Everyone knows people don’t buy print magazines anymore. The LIFE revival aims to buck that trend by asking some very important questions: What if magazines cost $45 an issue? And what if they were funded by the Kushner family fortune? Would you buy a print magazine then?

Life Magazine, Chronicler of 20th Century America, Rises Again

The iconic publication, acclaimed for its visual storytelling, will return as a print quarterly next month in a challenging business environment.

In 1972 in preparation for Skylab, NASA ran a full 56-day ground simulation. It was called SMEAT, and at the request of the three participating astronauts Charles Schultz personally drew the mission insignia: a choking Snoopy with a rope around his neck.

B/w photo of the mission patch. It says SMEAT at the top, CRIPPEN BOBKO THORNTON at the bottom, and has a drawing of Snoopy being choked by a rope in the center

I can vouch for Archita, a fellow writer in Kolkata who's sick & struggling with costs to support her mother through cancer treatment, as well as dealing with safety issues & repair on their home. She recently lost her father to cancer, & is dealing with all this alone. Please share widely & donate:
