Getting real sick of slop midwives pleading for a 'respectful discussion' of AI as relates to the arts. Your use of AI to 'make art' is not respectful. It benefits from stolen art, destroys the planet, and does not make you an artist any more than someone driving 26.2 miles is a marathoner.

My childhood friend died at 30. My partner's sister died in her 40s. My grandmother, recovering in the hospital from a manic episode, contracted COVID and died. My friend Leslie died in his early 40s. Several of my friends are still disabled.

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

This is why people stopped trusting "experts." No, our bodies didn't "win out" over the virus and our immune systems are not "taking it on." There are numerous studies that prove this is false, yet the endowed chair of public health at UMinn is saying it and this is what they're teaching students.

CIDRAP News: Is the COVID pandemic still going on? Michael Osterholm: No, I think we can safely say that we are now adjusting into a more routine cycle of infection. And you can argue that in several ways. First of all, there's a much greater stability to the virus that we see now with so much background immunity in the population. It’s similar to previous influenza pandemics, which were the hallmark pandemics we had prior to COVID. Clearly, they were situations where once a large portion of the population either got infected and died or got infected and recovered, there was a level of protection that, over time, basically won out over the virus itself. That's why you still see the virus circulating, but in a way that, genetically, our body's immune systems are largely able to take on. So again, if you look at the flu pandemics of the past, in every instance they just kind of faded away over time and became a background endemic disease. And today we are in a much more steady-state existence with COVID because of our preexisting immunity and the relative lack of genetic change to the virus. We haven't watched it go from the ancestral strain to Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, or Omicron, like we did in those first four years.

One thing I’m noticing is that one rogue person not embedded with the team (or on the team but not empowered to drive decisions) will do or say some bullshit with genAI, even if it doesn’t reflect the team’s practices. and it is MUCH harder to dispel that narrative once it’s out there.

👇 In reference to that SDCC Avatar Aang slide everyone is talking about. It was a page from an artbook, and the reference to Chat GPT was likely injected by the person who put the book together. Actual artists like Kat who worked on the film have no idea why it says that.

I have no clue why it was on that slide or who put it there, and every member of the crew I worked with is 100% against AI. Every aspect of the animation is handcrafted by real artists and I hope that people don’t use this slide as a reason to detract from how much love and labor went into the film.
