Publishing paths look different for every author. There’s often a traditional publishing vs. indie/small press mindset. But indie doesn’t = lower quality. Many indie/small press authors prefer more creative control over their books, branding, audience. Different path. Same passion. #AuthorSky

Rowan will unload on anyone even if they DIDN'T ask. Kenzie and Wesley are both keen on giving whatever bare minimum answer is socially acceptable. Owen will start making shit up. I do not think ANY OF THEM have the tact to follow up with "And you?" 😅 #AwesomeCharacters

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters A friend asks your character "How are you?" How do they typically respond? A lie or deflection? A polite "I'm fine?" An honest answer? A ten minute explanation of everything going on in their life? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

NICEF, Taegen: unless you're trusted, 'I'm fine.' Trusted? Quick and honest, like 'I'm exhausted. You?' DKD, Kyoka: usually honest and quick. Her loved ones all try to check in with each other, so it's not a blown off question. (1/3) 🧵 #AwesomeCharacters

Mori will honestly says she's fine and then try to find out how the asker is. Hadryon will shrug it off. Vae will probably do a dismissive air whistle. Kealani will lie for 10 minutes while stealing your money and your girlfriend. Susana would go "if you have time to ask, you have time to quest"

#AwesomeCharacters So this is slightly complicated because time is measured differently in RoE. When Freya first arrives she's 23 and still relatively young. By the end of the story, 7 years have passed. Which makes her 30, except not in terms of earth time. ⌛🧵

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters Here's one I asked a long time ago! But there are many new characters now, so let's revisit: How old is your character, and is that important to the story? Why did you pick that particular age group for them? #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

#WriteSky #TaintedFaculties #AwesomeCharacters Enaka is 75 years old: roughly 25 equivalently to humans. And I picked it bc it's the age where a lot of folks get their emotional bearings & maturity solidified as an adult. Enaka is finally breaking free of the trauma/chains that held them back.

#WIPSnips 'rain' #TheDragonblood: Felix arrives in the magical world, and it's raining. Thankfully, the magic carpet provides protection from the elements and the town they are going to has weather magic to drive off the rain. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

We’re back in the same field, but this time it’s raining. I’m used to it. Cambridge may be one of the driest places in Britain, but that’s not saying much.
“What do you want to see first?” Sabrina asks me, pulling her hood over her head.
“Dragons!” is my immediate response. I have my priorities, and I am not at all ashamed of them.
“You want to see a creature that will roast you alive, eat you, and turn your bones to gold?”
“Wait, turn my bones to gold? Is that a thing?” I ask.
“Um, yes,” she replies like it’s obvious.
“Cool! Let’s go right away!”
“Well, then, I’ll find you a guide who’ll take you to see the dragons,” Sabrina says. “I know just the person. Come on, there’s a town not too far from here. From there, we’ll be able to go wherever we want.”
“How are we getting there?” I ask.
“By magic carpet,” she says. She pulls a corner of fabric out of her pocket. She keeps pulling more and more out until a large sheet is revealed.
“A magic carpet?” I repeat, incredulous. “That’s a bedsheet.”
“It’s more transportable that way,” Sabrina explains. “It’ll hold your weight, I promise.”
She shakes it out and sets it hovering about a half a metre off the ground. She takes a seat on it, and I copy her. It feels sturdy, but still comfortable. I set my heavy backpack down to give my back a break. The rain still falls all around us, but an invisible shield above the carpet seems to protect us from it.
Suddenly, the scenery starts to fly by us at a breakneck speed. I barely felt a jerk as we started, and I don’t feel any wind.
“Wow, this is fast!” I comment. A few minutes later, we come to a stop. There are buildings up ahead, all in various bright colours.
“Here we are,” Sabrina declares. “The town of Kalnivutos.”
We get off the carpet and Sabrina stuffs it back in her pocket. Just outside the town, it is still raining, but once we enter it, I notice the sun is shining, with no clouds above us.

Welcome to a new week of #WIPSnips! It's been raining nonstop here for about a week, thus today's word: rain. I am not complaining because we were definitely in a drought, but the constant rain makes me super sleepy. #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

Well, today's #WIPSnips from the pissing scene in 1660. Kinda wondered if any betas would object to its inclusion but so far not. CN the specter of transphobic violence (he is safe) Maybe this is part soapbox as well as telling you what it's like to exist as Alexander, hobbled.

“Here. Guard me!”
“Yes, Mr. Aldridge.”
“Over there! Watch the street! And don’t look!”
“Why would I look!?”
“Don’t ask, just do it!”
Hunt had no conception of what the request meant, what shadows haunted Alexander’s mind, what evils Alexander knew could rain down on him if Hunt failed and the wrong person walked by, all the thousand ways that person could hurt him—of course Hunt could not imagine their shape, for he had never had the slightest cause to imagine a world in which he’d feel his whole life dangle by a thread just because he had a mortal body with mortal kidneys and a mortal bladder. Of course he did not know; he had pissed wherever he liked all his life. All he knew was the tone of voice in which the request was made. And so Hunt turned his back and watched the street.

A very suitable word for today, considering it's raining where I am! Since I live in such a rainy place, it's often something that comes up in my stories. Here's a snip from two of them :] Rest assured, rain appears in other WIPs as well. #WIPSnips #FtsF #WriteSky #TSOWM

Outlined text over a dark blue ocean. The horizon is obscured by fog.
The text reads: From the Sea Fret.
I needed some sort of plan, anything to get me out alive. It was impossible to focus. There were eyes (eyes eyes eyes, always eyes) on me, watching and dissecting me, as I wound my way through the unclaimed landscape surrounding Perne.

The eyes – the surveillance – was from the fog (the fog the fog the fog). Fish looking as one, watching as I neared the end–

Splotches of rain started to fall when I turned up my dirt road. They felt like ice pellets against my face, and I bowed my head to keep the water out of my eyes. I was about to turn up the walkway to my apartment, when a shout drew my attention.A glass window, with green plants serves as the background. Text is pasted over top.
It reads: The Strings of Willis Manor
The rain continued through to the next day, pummelling the ground with a torrential force. It left everyone confined inside, and the growing sentiment of claustrophobia grew palatable. Somehow, despite Willis Manor being a large and expansive state, the tense feeling charged the stale air.

Unlike others, however, my confinement remained exclusive to my bed. Sitting up was a slow and deliberate process, where my movements were as gentle as I could manage. I couldn’t swallow anything other than liquids, which was a blessing and a curse. My arms quivered when I held them in the air for too long.

Keeping me company – or more accurately, keeping themselves entertained – Clementine fluttered around me, while Andromeda painted a new mural for me.

“How many?” he asked Oana.
Oana’s eyes shifted to the side, listening again. “Three,” she said. “Maybe more.”
A shape slipped between two trunks and vanished before Love could understand what part of a body she had seen. It moved wrong for something that thin.
“They’re fast,” Oana added.
Charlie raised his gun, trying to follow the sound. “What are they? Wolves?”
Oana shook her head. “No.” Her voice dropped. “Old-Ones. The ones we couldn’t see back home.”
Another branch snapped. This time, it was too close.
Charlie’s face changed. “What is going on? Are they scared?”
“No,” Oana shook her head. “The spirits are.”
“Okay, okay,” Luz said. “Let’s think for two seconds.” He pulled Nanuk closer, almost behind his leg.
Then they heard a scream. It came from the trees ahead of them. A low-pitched scream, almost human, if it wasn't for the fact that it sounded like a rain of children's cries.

#MayWorldbuilders 25 I have what I call an 'Open Door Afterlife'. It's tangible and possible to get in and out, kind of like the Greek one. Is that easy to do? Hell no! Thalia not only has necromancers in her crime family and has found many ways into the Abyss. Death is big in these books.

#MayWorldbuilders, how has your MC (or another important character) dealt with death? Have they experienced the death of a loved one? Have they nearly died themselves? Have they met any Death-related entities?

#mayworldbuilders day 25: WIP 1: Inazuma hasn’t lost anyone close yet, but he did almost die from bloodloss after his fight with the monster king. He hasn’t met a death related entity yet (but he unknowingly knows a few people with connections to such beings).

#MayWorldbuilders 25 Lina has: - Experienced the death of a loved one ✅ - Nearly died herself ✅ She deals with it by carrying on. Life goes on, and living it to the best of your ability is (to her) the only way to not let the bad shit win.

#MayWorldbuilders Heiden can process death pretty quickly, and move on. It doesn't break her resolve in battle. She'll take her time to grieve when appropriate. Killing does weigh on her, but she does deal it in a healthy way. She has almost died, but hasn't dealt with /that/ trauma very well. 1/2

The main focus is on a temple like structure that's bound on four sides, and on outside there are individual homes.

Love of family, friendship, and romance are all core to Tiferet's story: whether someone needs to earn it; trusting someone who sees something in you that you don't; that being loved can't cure everything, but it can make it easier to heal and endure, if treated correctly.
