The hysteria has gotten out of control. Corporations have been exploiting communities to make investments for decades. Data centers are a rare opportunity to reset the mold to get taxable revenue and lots of additional protections, and set a template for other corporate investments too.

Even if you think the Brewers approach to building a roster doesn't work in the playoffs, how would acquiring a couple players at the deadline significantly change anything? It's mostly the same roster! It's not like you get points in the playoffs for number of players added at the deadline.
One frustrating thing about baseball business analysis is the lack of publicly available, reliable information. What was truly offered in a trade? How much money is the owner pocketing? How many free agents were truly willing to sign with Team X? Nobody ever knows, but they get mad like they do.
Thirty miles from Dodger Stadium, the Brewers are in Anaheim. I asked Sal Frelick for his Tarik Skubal trade reaction. He was neither surprised nor upset, but acknowledged some disappointment after feeling like the Brewers were actually going for the deadline prize this time:
The Brewers didn’t match up with what the Tigers needed, which was a pitcher both sides could believe *might* pitch well in MLB for the rest of the season, but merely that. Henderson has far cleared that bar so he is much more valuable. Sproat has shown he can’t, so he is not a viable substitute.

I’m curious what this Skubal trade tells us about the condition of other Dodgers pitchers.
I assure you that no Brewers employee with a surname other than Attanasio wants a salary cap.

The Dodgers have in fact broken baseball but the Skubal trade in particular merely indicates, amazingly, that nobody else really wanted Skubal all that much.

Having a top *and* deep farm system means your prospects are simply worth less to you than to other teams, which is why you are fine “overpaying” at a deadline if need be. It’s why the Dodgers are happy to ship them off each year and the Brewers may hug some of their own prospects less this year.
