Blast from blawgosphere past: Class Maledictorian/Prettier Than Napoleon Was professionally evil but I got better

People who believe children shouldn’t be medicalised, don’t seem to connect it to the fact that everyone, the elderly, the menopausal, the obese, pregnant people, babies, preterm infants, are more medicalised than ever before and that’s progress, actually. So they don’t die/suffer preventably.

In addition to having no experience in immigration, their website shows Ilya Shapiro (!) and disgraced former law prof Joshua Wright (!) as Senior Counsel. I don't think this massive contract was awarded to give immigrant children effective, zealous advocacy. burkegroup.law/our-team/

26-employee Texas law firm gets $150M to represent 24,000 children in immigration court

You do not have to personally like every person that you are in community with. if you want to do something important that takes a lot of effort and moving parts, you'll likely be in contact with people you don't like or vibe with. that's ok! you do not have to like or want to hang with everyone.

I've never seen anything remotely approaching a good answer — or even a good faith effort to *attempt* to answer — what the “schools should never have been closed” crowd thinks would've happened when we ran out of teachers & other school staff willing to die (pre-vaccine) in order to keep them open.

Wow, I checked the QTs for the recent garbage discourse and the OP has apparently blocked everyone who posted even mild disagreement with something dehumanizing and offensive

The story of aging is the slow horrifying realization that at some point, you hurt yourself in what used to be a minor way, except instead of healing fully it’s just how your body works now.

"treating JD Vance like a useless weirdo piece of trash" is in fact one of the few bipartisan positions left in the United States, as evinced by the fact his own administration doesn't give him anything to do and just pushes him out to eat shit whenever things are particularly bad

IMHO, Douthat's 2018 opinion piece advocating for "fairer" access to women's bodies is terrorism apologism. It justifies political violence in the name of male supremacy, specifically the lookist (incel) radical milieu. Why the New York Times kept platforming him after that is mind-boggling.

Violence Has Grown Since California Incel Shooting

Prominent media outlets like The New York Times have downplayed the threat of domestic terrorism, while also legitimating male supremacism.

Chaperoning a preschool trip to the aquarium and one of the other dads who is vaguely familiar with what I do comes up to me and goes “man I sure hope we get some Nuremberg-style trials at the end of all this”

This is why the number one thing liberal con law people should be working on is arguments that Trump’s pardons are not valid. Obviously none of this can happen without court packing but once the new liberal court is in place, there need to be arguments ready to hand them.

I think that not only is this good politics, but the stability of American society depends on it. Liberal American normies are out for blood, but *everyone* is in an anti-system mood. If we don't feed that beast some sacrifices, it'll find someone who can, and those sacrifices will be innocent.

Reiterating that Musk's literal voter bribery last time was an unambiguous go-directly-to-jail felony, for which people have been successfully prosecuted over vastly smaller amounts. It wasn't just pouring money into a PAC, whatever one thinks of that. It was a black-letter plain-as-day crime.

Yes, Elon Musk’s Vote-Buying Is Against the Law

People have gone to prison for comparable schemes.

Musk got away with his $1 million vote-buying scheme in 2024. Why wouldn't he try something similar this November?

I was already uncomfortable with my kid watching YouTube videos in school without having them preceded by foul political ads. I do not send my child to public school to hear political ads and if the teacher played them intentionally we’d be having kittens. How is it so hard to just. Not?

My kid came home from his mps program on Monday and overheard me talking about Peggy Flanagan then in a scary tv voice said “Peggy Flanagan Lied To Us” and I was like…uh wtf was that? He said he heard it school, they were watching a YouTube video about Lego and that ad came on ahead of it 🤬
