It's a tough pill to swallow for centrists. On the one hand you have Haley Stevens, all-American, all-Michigan girl from the suburbs of Detroit. On the other hand you have Abdul El-Sayed, who is from the exact same suburb but looks like he might be evil.

People seem to see strong social safety nets and taxes on the wealthy as a slippery slope to communist revolutions instead of an inoculation against them. And I am asking people to look at the pre-revolution economies of countries who have communist revolutions.

This good summary of Trump’s “whole-of-government” effort to subvert and control the 2026 and 2028 elections raises the question: Would Trump go to all this trouble for Vance, or Rubio, or anyone but…himself? Won’t Trump at least try to run in 2028?

There should be a Sandlot movie about this gang of multi-racial kids running through the streets of Pasadena, with one of them ending up in Japanese internment camp (while the neighborhood took care of his family home), and one of them ending up being Jackie Robinson.

Jackie Robinson grew up in a diverse Pasadena neighborhood, & when one of those neighbors, his baseball teammate Shig Takayama, was incarcerated at Manzanar with his family, the Robinsons helped take care of their home. For my new column, a story of the worst & best of America through baseball. 🗃️
