What if instead of starting substacks in twenty-fucking-twenty-six people learned to give one iota of a fuck about whether they want to associate themselves with nazis.

Some climate people claim that if we switched from oil/gas to renewable energy, the US would stop invading other countries for oil. But the problem is imperialism, no matter what type of energy is involved. The US would just as happily invade other countries for lithium and other components

“Jesús Manuel Arenas-Silva went without medication during his detention until he tragically died in ICE custody on July 13 … I am 100% certain that he did not receive proper care.” said his sister. At least 53 people have died in ICE custody since President Donald Trump returned to office.

The anti trans crowd was outraged by this study because it included clinicians who actually practice gender affirming care. Yet another systematic review that follows Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Utah, and Louisiana that finds this care is safe and effective with rare regret.

1. In an incredible new landmark review, the Health Council of the Netherlands has declared that gender-affirming care for trans youth works, reducing wait times is "morally urgent," and regret is rare. It is the latest of many Euro countries to advance care. Subscribe to support our journalism.

Dem consultants who believe that "kitchen table issues" -- material self-interest -- can sway right-wing voters should take note of the fact that many of those voters are willing to directly harm themselves in service of their deranged ideological hatreds.

Fox host Brian Kilmeade dismissed the advice of the network’s own senior medical analyst, Dr. Marc Siegle, by saying there is “not a chance” he will wear a KN95 mask.

In recent weeks, ICE has killed at least two people during traffic stops. But this kind of violence isn’t unique to a singular agency — it’s systemic across U.S. law enforcement. Here is the data that proves it 🧵

Wow. The ICE shooter in Maine asked his ex-wife to "to lie for him and to cover for his character." She said he was abusive and had previously reported concerns about him to his military superiors. He was also a volunteer firefighter, but was removed after several spats with department leadership.

An ex-wife told the Press Herald that David Brouillette called her and admitted he was the ICE agent who shot Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero.

In Indiana, one (very wealthy) school has won the state championship in girls' swimming 40 years in a row. Their coach is a former All-American who has coached at the Olympics. The school I went to doesn't have a pool. Somehow, this is never brought up as being an example of "unfair advantage."

Gluesenkamp Perez: "At town halls, what I saw was the people who were the most upset had spent the last 12 years driving their girls to sports practice & they view their best shot of their student going to college as an athletic scholarship. So when we rush to moralize we miss some of the nuance."

It's going to end up being a surveillance state that requires severe privacy risks for girls to participate in sports going forward including invasive genetic testing and physical examinations.

A pressing question now is how sports officials will determine if competitors are girls and women, as defined by the opinion. While gender verification testing — a long-vilified and intrusive practice — has resumed at the Olympic level, how will grade schools, middle schools and high schools conduct those tests? And will everyone be tested, or just the athletes who draw suspicion?

The ideology in question is opposing fascism. This horrific action is a shot across the bow at all of us—everyone who cares about their neighbors, who dares to dream of a better world, who opposes ICE terror and authoritarian repression. We cannot allow the state to disappear them.

Judge O’Connor stated from the bench that he is giving maximum sentences to the Prairieland sentences because “the state wants to send a message to anyone who shares a similar ideology.”

Especially since the "woke 1" fallout, you basically never hear this kind of nonsense from anyone on the left anymore. But it's supercharged among the same people who still accuse leftists and progressives of doing it.

My big objection to "woke 1" critiques is that the sort of shallow, dishonest identity based attacks that are often associated with "woke" people are deployed far more frequently by centrist and right wing "anti-woke" voices. Here's centrist thinktanker Jordan Weissmann reveling in this garbage.

Your reminder that fairy tales are full of stepmothers because women once routinely died in childbirth, from postpartum sepsis, or from other infectious diseases and left behind housefuls of motherless children. Stable nuclear families are made possible by vaccines, antibiotics, and safe abortions.

One reason i think everyone should take an archaeology class is to internalise with tangible examples that there is no pure, natural past utopia and that antibiotics and vaccines are what stand between us and a 50% child mortality rate and scores of women dying needlessly during pregn and birth
