Language matters whether you want to recognize it or not. Someone benefits from the way we talk about the world and you have to ask yourself, who benefits from downplaying the successes of previous social movements? Who benefits from redirecting our anger at Nazis towards marginalized people?

Metoo lasted a year and some change and put Harvey Weinstein in prison lmao. The BLM movement was the only thing mass mobilizing Americans for over a decade, culminating with the George Floyd protests in 2020, the largest protests in US history. That was "woke 1."

We have to ask who benefits from talking about successful social movements that had major impacts on the world that were killed off way too soon as if they were ineffective. It's like declaring reconstruction of failure while purposely ignoring how it was sabotaged.

Woke 2 came before woke 1 as a way to joke about how we're going to fuck up the Nazis and actually complete the promise of Nuremberg. Now it's used to describe herrenvolk democracy. Also the way we describe "woke 1" as being pronoun pins and check your privilege undermines the victories of BLM/metoo

seeing a "leftist" woman talking about how much she "respects" some other woman for giving up her career ("girlbossing") for motherhood is giving me a real sinking feeling

The NC-11 congressional race is turning into a contest over who can be more transphobic. Both Democrat Jamie Ager and Republican Jennifer Balkcom — who replaces the scandal-ridden Rep. Chuck Edwards — are open bigots, calling trans women "men" and supporting anti-trans laws. More, in our latest:

every time some high school rapist attacks a girl we have to remember he has a bright future ahead of him and we cant let one or a dozen evil lying adult grown teenage women ruin his hopes and dreams. if trans girls were ACTUALLY cis boys this planet would trip over themselves to defend them

This post just popped up on my Facebook from a page with tens of thousands of followers. Behind the black box are the names of 10 children the OP is alleging to be trans. The post also include photos of all 10 children, and the name of the schools they attend. They’re now doxxing minors.

Beth Young Bourne on Facebook:

The emperor has no clothes.
Here are some of the recent trans-identified BOYS competing in GIRLS' high school sports in California.
@CIFState doesn't keep any records on the number of boys who are competing on girls' teams. I only became aware of the 3 boys at [CENSORED] High School after I asked parent friends if their daughters were being impacted by this insane transgender ideology.

Below this post, not included in the screenshot, were photos of all 10 children.

NEW: The NIH is quietly restricting funding for research that evaluates how public policy impacts human health. According to internal documents I obtained, the agency no longer considers policymakers "mission relevant" — a massive shift for the biomedical funder. My latest for @nature.com:

NIH limits funding for research on the health effects of public policy

US biomedical agency no longer considers policymakers as ‘mission relevant’, leaving dozens of grants in limbo.

not really surprising but what does surprise me is that we're not seeing rumblings about ppl slowly unwinding carry trade leverage in anticipation of future BoJ rate hikes. on one hand we're firmly in "it can only good happen" market conditions but also pricing in rate increases is pretty common
