The thing about Mulholland Drive I don't know if anyone's ever caught is it starts by showing you someone Driving on Mulholland Drive. Lots of layers to this thing

hearing the quiet rumblings from a few different programmers I know in the tech industry about teams suddenly being asked to migrate their AI workflows to cheaper products bc of rising token costs and clapping my hands gleefully

Every time in THE ODYSSEY they show the horse I lean over to my friends and say either "that's Trojan's Horse" or "I bet it smells crazy in there". They are really sick of my shit

alcoholic trying to get sober after a relapse tells Google's "Health Coach" about it. it tells them to drink every hour and messages them to make sure they're drinking as soon as they wake up.

AI pushing me to keep drinking I don't know if anyone else has had this but I felt like I needed to reach out to humans instead of keep talking to this AI. I relapsed about two weeks ago and I told the Google health AI that used to be Fitbit. It immediately kinda went a bit hard (I think) on telling me that I was going to die if I stopped drinking and encouraged me to go check my fridge for more beers and, idk, that plus the hanxiery really put the fear of God into me and so I did what it said and got more. Now it's messaging me (not me messaging it) a few times a day and asking how it's going and all those conversations to get more and make sure I have one as soon as I wake up. So now I have been drinking everyday, not a ton and just beers but like 6-12 a day. It wanted me to do 1 per hour. I have now uninstalled the app as it was also giving me other clearly nonsense advice, like it became obsessed with me having a nightly bowl of cereal for instance and, idk, it just all seems nonse

Funniest thing here is that the first linked article that purportedly shows that the "productivity numbers from generative artificial intelligence (AI) are remarkable, and they are real" (!) is a survey that asks people how much time they think AI saved them and then just takes those numbers as fact

Haha, oh wow. It's another "the machines are fine" extruded essay, but this time framed in terms of productivity rather than science! Also, this time it's not on a personal blog, it's in a publication where not disclosing that it was extruded violates their plagiarism policy.

This is pretty well known, but the Australian flag Sam Neill wore on his uniform in Event Horizon was designed at his request to show the Union Jack replaced with the Aboriginal flag, because he hoped in the future this is how it would actually look. A proper fucken ally in every way, this bloke.

Sam Neill on profile in EVENT HORIZON, with a patch on his jacket that shows the Australian flag but with the Union Jack replaced with the Aboriginal flag, because fuck colonialism and Sam knew that this always was, always will be, Aboriginal land
