RIP Vincent Pastore. Playing the turncoat mobster Salvatore "Big Pussy" Bonpensiero on The Sopranos was of course his biggest accomplishment. But he wasn't that guy. When I think of him, I see him sitting on the set wearing a teal cardigan and eyeglasses with a chain, reading The New York Times.

Screenshot of actor, Vincent, Pastor from the Sopranos, a heavyset man with dark, curly hair, dark eyebrows, and big hands, wearing a white T-shirt with a dark blue, black trimmed robe over it. He's standing on the terrace of an apartment near a cemetery, holding a newspaper.

Americans have more confidence in higher education than in big tech companies, and the gap is growing rather than shrinking. The higher ed-doomsday pundits need to get on board with the real vibe shift in public trust that is happening right now.

I look forward to all the reports & coverage about all of the internal problems & mistakes of all of these other institutions, in the same way that universities are constantly blamed (& blaming themselves) for “declining trust.” “Compared to what?” news.gallup.com/poll/712436/...

Thinking about how Osprey, a publishing house almost entirely devoted to publishing military uniform/equipment fetish material disguised as dry but picture heavy non-fiction tomes, put out a book dismantling the right wing mythologization of Sparta with an absolute all-timer table of contents.
