I may be the spouse of a librarian and therefore slightly biased, but given that the head of the bike cops unknowingly insulted my parenting choices as a cargo e-bike rider and said their officers aren't willing to put in any effort on traffic enforcement at a community meeting, 100%.

Biked 1 mile to coffee. Then biked another mile to the pharmacy. Then biked 1 mile home. 95% on protected (separated) bike infra. More Americans deserve the freedom of a life like this (if they want it).

This is a joke, but also not a joke. Everything in this post used to be in or on a Chicago building, but now sits in the City Museum. And I'm not even getting into their Louis Sullivan collection, which is beyond belief.

People give too much attention and romanticism to trains when the level of actual demand, usage, and locations reached could be better solved with a bus or even a regular jitney service.

Much like progressive suburban politics need to take down car dealerships, who have a similar stranglehold on local government. Those dealerships bring in both property taxes and high levels of sales taxes (a huge boon for local govt), and channel their massive profits back into local GOP campaigns.

That's why rural outreach sucks. It's not because "Dems aren't trying." It's bc the problem in rural politics is a 3rd rail that *nobody*- in any party- will touch.
We made a short about the record profits oil companies were making off high gas prices a little over a month ago, and it's just as true today. It's another good reason to look at other ways of getting around!
