Just had this convo with a family member yesterday. Their exurban car dependent development only has 2 routes that go in/out of the entire residential community of hundreds of SFHs … in a fire prone area. One of the routes is a state park that is not open 24/7. Makes me so anxious.

A street grid is resilience. Building neighborhoods full of cul de sacs creates unavoidable choke points. If an exit is blocked by fire or cars that crashed due to low visibility, people can die. If your terrain is not steep, build a street grid. If not, build foot/cycle path escape routes

We just cover all kids School lunch in MN. The whole state Children should be fed because kids need to be fed. Their parents income level has no bearing. Kids + School = fed Everything else is a superfluous bullshit excuse to subject kids to classism.

Feeding all of the kids, universal school lunch, also helps to reduce social stigma. Universal school lunch is good and everyone should be fed.

It's like saying "don't give old canned goods to your local food bank, give them CASH, the money goes SO FAR for them YOU COULD NEVER." Schools and charities have special purchasing rates that individuals can genuinely not match.

Also, and this is a little unkind, but still, buying groceries for home is NOT the same as buying a school lunch. In the free lunch program, I got a cheese roll for breakfast, and then a plate of spaghetti or a turkey sandwich for lunch. Not the healthiest, not the worst, filled me up.
