I like things, and try to be kind.

Hyper individualism is ruining society. Without the existence of culture and shared experiences, we cannot relate to people different from ourselves. It *is* that important when you consider the things that make us worth salvaging as a species—empathy, compassion, intelligence—are all at risk.

this is the ultimate end point of capitalism, ai will completely atomize everyone and there will be zero shared experiences. there will be no culture, only pure consumption. this must be resisted

Sample “revelation”: FBI agents expressed doubts over probable cause to search Mar-a-Lago. But docs were not new &, more important, predated FBI seeing surveillance footage showing Trump aide removing boxes before his atty came to search them for subpoenaed classified files, resolving doubts.. 2/2

Mr. Solomon's presentation, both times, also omitted key context:
The field office's legal doubts came before Mar-a-Lago surveillance footage emerged that showed a Trump aide moving boxes from a storage area before a lawyer came to search it for subpoenaed classified files. The additional evidence resolved legal concerns about probable cause.

What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

The one (1) strategic lesson Dems in power need to learn from the last two years is that these fascist fuckers moved FAST. They knew the clock was ticking and broke as much as they could, as fast as they could. So don't fuck around for 2 years "building coalitions" or whatever

what i want out of the next two years of an at least partially democrat-controlled congress is robust dossiers on every criminal in this administration ready for relevant agency heads and state governments at 12pm on january 20, 2028. impeachments are one avenue to help build them

the fundamental thing wrong with this ai-driven "hyper personalization" pipe dream is that your preferences are constantly changing, primarily in response to experiencing things that are different from your current preferences and expectations, through this little-known process called Living.

I'm watching WARGAMES (1983) and this is...just the contemporary AI doomer scenario. The first few scenes have the US military literally "remove men from the loop" of launching the nukes & putting a computer that's achieved the ability to recursively "learn from its mistakes."

Bureau of Land Management just approved blasting through 100-foot canyon walls at the entrance to Nine Mile Canyon, UT, home to 10,000+ rock art images spanning 8,000 years. 47 historic sites sit in the blast zone. It's for oil tankers. Here's what's actually happening 🧵

The Bureau of Land Management approved blasting through 100-foot canyon walls at the entrance to the world's longest art gallery. So oil tankers can drive through it.

Nine Mile Canyon, Utah holds more than 10,000 cultural, historical and archaeological resources, including over 1,000 known rock art sites containing more than 10,000 individual images. People have used this canyon for at least 8,000 years.

The blasting happens in Gate Canyon, the entrance corridor into that gallery. Federal surveys have already found 47 historic sites along this one stretch of road alone. And it's not only the rock art. Threatened Mexican spotted owls use cliff habitat in the canyon, including areas near the proposed blasting. BLM did the minimum environmental review required and barreled ahead anyway, to move oil out of the Uinta Basin faster. Up to 1,000 vehicles a day, roughly half of them heavy tankers.

This isn't BLM's first swing at this road. Duchesne County tried the same realignment in 2015 and again in 2022. Both times, public opposition killed it. This time, BLM posted it quietly in March with no public notice, denied conservation groups' request to even weigh in, and approved it in April anyway.

It's the same playbook that just got this administration stopped at Big Bend National Park, except "stopped" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. There, a judge halted construction October 2nd, but only after bulldozers had already torn through ground Park Service archaeologists hadn't finished studying. They found pottery and artifacts underneath that equipment they never got the chance to protect first. A win in court doesn't un-crush what's already crushed.

Three groups sued over Gate Canyon this week. But a lawsuit takes months. A blasting crew takes days.THE HISTORY OF THIS ROCK ART

This canyon isn't one culture's story. It's layers of different peoples writing onto the same walls and the same ground across thousands of years.

Its rock art spans the Archaic, Fremont, and Ute periods. The Fremont lived here roughly 950 to 1250 AD, farming corn, beans and squash using small irrigation systems off Nine Mile Creek. Their panels show daily life and belief, abstract designs, hunting scenes, animals, people. Later, Ute people added their own rock art to the canyon, layered right alongside the Fremont record, in a style archaeologists describe as more dynamic.

The road through this canyon has its own history too. It was built in 1886 by Buffalo Soldiers, Black cavalrymen of the U.S. 9th Cavalry, to supply Fort Duchesne on the frontier. For 25 years it carried stagecoaches, mail and freight into the Uintah Basin.Nine Mile Canyon rock art in UtahBild

It’s sort of wild the degree to which this admin is doing the Bizarro World version of “devolve policy choices to too-online grad students whose brains are melted by memetic echo chambers and totemization of various cultural institutions/artifacts”

The FBI wants to hire the Ultimate Fighting Championship to train its special agents under a one-year deal that would bypass the competitive bidding process typically used for federal contracts, according to federal records.
