If you are in Toronto, I'll be up next week for 4S presenting a paper on the AI+ conference series here in DC, what specific technical imaginaries are at play, from whom, and how you can tell. LMK if you wanna hang!

On a lark I decided to look up ‘ai’ on tiktok and I was not prepared. I just can’t even describe how not prepared I was. The convos about AI I have are like “is it ever ethical to use AI to develop tools to speed up your asset pipeline” and people are out here pumping out fruit people soap operas.
this is pretty much _why_ its bad the USDWS is gonna get ate. Also why i love teaching/research/writing and lowkey hate my field, which is "the machine persuades"
The past. Sept 25 2018
I still say the reason Qanon style thinking keeps spreading in very online spaces is cause its native to it and its origin is online TV fan forums
I just used the USWDS in training _today_ to talk about how design systems encode ideological goals this is _bad._ Like, i know everything is bad, but this is _bad._
I'm very please to announce a public release of my drag-and-drop bookmarking, game-making, and wandering tool Scrubjay! Scrubjay is a weird website builder that lets you cobble together web elements, images, links, text fragments, etc into a series of nested rooms...
Recent Events have me once again considering: the cube
realizing i never posted it here….but too long have we been limited by the 2-dimensional political alignment chart. i think by using my new tool we can truly map another person's politics. here it is: The Ideology Cube

was literally just referencing this—the “who is having the most fun, the player, the designer, or the computer” question—earlier today. it’s such a core concern when making something heavily systemic or relies a lot on procgen
thinking about this again today, and not even in the context of procgen. The thing about systems design is that it's so easy to get excited about making little sandboxes for yourself that you forget the player needs insight into it, lest it simply appear the same as complete randomness.
you see a product at a store one day and it's uniquely revolting. you turn it over in your mind and finally come to the conclusion that "not everything is for me." within an hour you realize that nothing made by industry is For You. all products in all stores are For Oppressor
I’m sure some people in academia have actually studied the remarkable US shift from optimism about tech to intense pessimism, and I’d love to read that research if anyone has links.

So what *is* WIRED Women? It started as a joke at our weekly happy hour; we laughed at the idea of turning a historically dude-loving publication into a women’s rag—a tongue-in-cheek way to highlight the sorry state of women’s advancement in fields like tech and science.
Welcome to the WIRED Women Issue
No one wants to talk about women in tech. So we will.

I truly don’t understand this “transplant” nonsense. The whole THING about NYC is that ppl come here from other places to mutate into New Yorkers! TO SEE IF THEY CAN BE KING OF THE HILL, TOP OF THE HEAP! Imho a rando who moved here a year ago is the MOST NY person. Welcome Ohio rando, have a bagel
