Pixar receives a $26.2 Million Tax credit to keep film jobs in CA, and immediately lays off 10% of its work force, after making over a billion from Toy Story 5, the highest-grossing film of 2026.
Pixar's Layoffs Came Days After Receiving a $26 Million Tax Credit. So I Wrote California Officials.
State tax incentives should create and retain jobs for Californians, not subsidize corporate layoffs.

One of my favorite old pieces of Welcome to Nightvale fanart. Vague and sketchy, but it still makes me happy.
Occured to me that I can collect all of these in a single post, on account of the carousel. Anyway, some postcards from elsewhere:
drink less water. clench your jaw. worsen your posture. this is the time of monsters
Speaking of the odyssey this is the best post anyone's ever made about it
Mixing arthropod style chitinous armor into dragons was quite a rarity in this era, even more so in the western art sphere. I’ve never seen this piece before but really cool to see how ahead of the game Wrightson was.
“Knight and Dragon", by Bernie Wrightson, c.1987.
GEORGE LUCAS: if c-3po were real, he could have made the star wars movies by himself, and they would have been better than the movies i made. [tears in eyes] i wish he had made them. i wish he had. [stops for a moment] not the beeping one though. never the beeping one. he has a deadly poison in him.
Please blow up the public comment (included below): BREAKING NEWS (7/15) — The administration wants to destroy Chaco Canyon without consulting Tribal Nations. It’s an irreplaceable historic & cultural site with 4,700 archeological sites that could be lost to the bulldozers of oil & gas development

It's tragically appropriate that we spent a whole generation telling students that the humanities were moribund, and they should all study STEM, only for the greatest innovations in STEM to prove why the humanities were so essential all along.

On the 250th Anniversary of the accepted official beginning of the US, let's doff our hats to our best Founder, Thomas Paine. 1/
I saw this game on display at PlayCon in Sydney, and I was stunned at how beautiful it is. If you get a chance to try it, please do!
*Gasp* I can finally say that I design several charaters for this game ! A rich and inspiring setting to work on with an amazing art team ! Please, check out Time without Tide ! 💚
Wacom recently asked me to talk about why I make queer comics, and given there are multiple bills right now floating around in congress that are effectively "we will kill your livelihood if we get a sniff of queer" I had some pretty strong, simply feelings to relay.
Can’t sleep? Simple methods that work: • study hurricane forecast • who hates me • what did i forget • relive supreme humiliation • win 12-yr-old argument • buried alive? could happen • what i did vs should have done • dead people i miss • what if i’m bad • why do i say stuff • what’s my fuckin deal
"It should be enough. To make something beautiful should be enough. It isn’t. It should be." – Richard Siken, from “Landscape with a Blur of Conquerors”

I think to our audiences & even a lot of industry peers at the hiring level, both “good design” & “skillful drawing” are tips of invisible skill icebergs, but specifically where they differ (which imo is SUPER important) is something that largely goes unremarked on (outside of very nerdy groupchats)
I've been thinking a lot about visible vs invisible skill layers. i.e every craft has outer layers of skills that laypeople can recognise, and inner layers that you need expertise and experience to perceive at all. Could y'all think of examples of visible vs invisible skills in your own discipline?
BREAKING: DDHQ calls it: Becerra and Hilton will advance to the general election.
I never know what to do with frills. Precisely because they're such obvious 'billboards'.
It's almost too hot to paint. Everything dries too quickly. Especially if, like me, you work at a small scale and with very fine brushes. Tomorrow will be even hotter, so I expect many instances of the paint drying on the brush before it has reached the paper.
