I've encountered multiple bugs that I was able to quickly track down to months old code. I could only do that because I'd spent time understanding that code, and all the code around it And if it's someone else's work that I haven't spent time with, at least there's a real person i can ask for help

So I disagree...I've actually worked remote for the last 6 years and on and off before that with several companies. Remote teams can still build trust, have great communication and make great games together. It takes a different approach than being in the same office but it can be done and done well

I would add to that... having all the team members in close proximity in the same office also really helps smoothing out wrinkles: You don't need a dashboard or a pin message on Slack to inform everybody on the team that the last build has a critical issue that needs fixing.

even if LLM actually made gamedev more efficient, which I see no reason to believe it has or will, that won't reduce crunch, because the business people will just push harder until you're crunching again. When a tool increases worker productivity, that doesn't translate into better work hours.
