We cannot let this happen. If it does, we WILL lose. My hope is that the far left sees that the Democratic Base will fall in line behind whoever wins the primary and we can lower the toxicity levels in 2028. If it’s like this one was, we will lose. Full stop.

Glad it’s over, thrilled by the results, and, I regret to inform you: The MI Senate primary (much like the TX one) is pretty good foreshadowing for what the 2028 Democratic presidential primary is going to feel like.

Part of me wonders if a rare positive from the whole Platner debacle is exposing what an actual unacceptable candidate looks like, both to expose the true moral vacuums on the left and to remind libs that there are many worse things than an AES type

They are assholes and hypocrites who want to benefit from our side being better at democracy. That’s fine. That’s not the right right now. 60 Dems you disagree with sometimes is better than 40 you agree with all the time. No more fucking around. We pick this back up in December.

It is precisely because I believe my faction of the party is better than the DSA faction that I don’t really have a lot of time for people acting like it’s acceptable not to vote for the Democrat in the general. If you live in Michigan, you gotta vote - and convince others to vote - for El-Sayed.

in no particular order - fraud - faith healing - absolute dogshit constituent services, like the worst in the last quarter century of Congress - did I mention the fraud - breaking w/biden on stupid stuff - saying ridiculously stupid shit for no reason - some more fraud

Bigoted comments coming from any side is messy. If you can win something political while still being moral is great. Plus don't cry about winning generals when you can't get out of primaries.

the whole 'nothing has gotten better' discourse is of course fucking stupid in a million ways, but I just wanted to note that average dog lifespan in the United States has increased by two years since 2000.

I don’t know man, but maybe disenfranchising an entire group for a nebulous outcome isnt something we should support if we actually believe in Democracy. Max Miller is 37. Graham Platner is 41. Clearly youth is no guarantee of quality.

Pilots have to retire at 65. FEderal law enforcement officers, 57 (with some extensions to 60.) Surely we can agree that people over the age of—70? 75?—should not be allowed to run for federal office.

I have little to add to the chat, but I will say this: Those of us who spend a lot of time talking about politics overestimate how much other people care about, or are even familiar with, the labels we use to describe, denigrate, or celebrate candidates. Sometimes we’re high on our own supply.

No major media seems interested in the fact that senior DNC staff is openly undermining Ken Martin and literally withholding documents they don't want him to see, and you can bet the reason for that is that those are the same staffers media depend on for leaks so reporters won't spotlight them.
