Me: I'd like to take a short cycle trip with my kids, getting to the start and back from the finish by train, please. Scotrail: sure, we'll just chop down half a forest for your cycle reservations... (And force you to phone us to book because our app & website are crap for cyclists)

How the climate crisis intensifies conflict.
i’m one of the 3/4, I need to live somewhere with a good public transit system or I cannot get anywhere without spending a shit ton of money ✅✅
Simple message, really. Thanks for the bluntness, @nondriver.bsky.social. #UrbanTruth
It is very telling that the Tories have yet to explain what they propose should replace the CCA. Are they really proposing - as is the implication - that they are literally rejecting any effort to tackle climate change? Are they really prepared to explicitly admit they are rejecting climate science?
NEW: The opposition Conservatives are making a symbolic attempt to repeal the UK's Climate Change Act It will be debated on 2 September, after summer recess (and a series of deadly heatwaves)
Temperatures in Basra, Iraq hit 48°C today. Next 4 day period will see 48°C every day during which temps will not go below 32°C. This is a lethal heatwave driven by climate change.
Please attend if you can to show that racism and islamophobia is unacceptable in #Leith or Edinburgh.
Global warming has clearly been a major factor in the radicalisation of the Western right-wing. A truth so inconvenient for their interests and ideology that they preferred to cut ties with empirical reality itself. This then bred habits of belligerence and dishonesty that fed into other issue areas
Letter in today's Times by climate scientist Sir Brian Hoskins: "The discourse around net-zero is increasingly decoupled from…science and our changing weather. "Net-zero is not an arbitrary slogan, rather it is dictated by the laws of physics."
Temperatures have reached 36.7°C at Merryfield, Somerset, provisionally making it the hottest June day on record again for the UK 🥵 Wales has also seen its hottest June day with 35.9°C at Cardiff and Northern Ireland tied with 30.8°C at Castlederg 🌡️
The freedom of the press is a fundamental pillar of democracy and that includes the freedom to ask difficult questions of elected representatives. I agree 100% with my union on this.

@bsky.app any plans to introduce an ipad app? Would make my life so much easier and increase my engagement on Bluesky significantly.
Extremely disappointed the @edinburghgreens.bsky.social addendum on Greenbank-Meadows Quiet Route, which would have preserved the modal filters in the Braid estate, has been voted down 6-5 at committee. Committee has prioritised 'reducing legal risk' over the safety of our kids. 😔
🚨 Tesco recycling site closing 🚨 I was told this morning that, due to flytipping & dumping, the recycling site at Tesco Duke Street will be closing on 20 July. I have appealed to council officers to consider additional enforcement action in order to keep this site open.

Today the Scottish Parliament voted to request the powers to hold a referendum on independence. The UK government must now respect Scottish democracy and Scottish voters.
Good news. And clear evidence that building protected cycling infrastructure increases cycling levels.
