Coastal media elite, and occasional fly tyer “Scromble oop de beasties”

If regular people see rich and powerful assholes thrown in jail, that will clearly send the message that all criminals will face consequences and make them think twice about crime. Dems need to "Get tough on (white collar) crime."

While touring the Dilley ICE prison, I got to meet Emely. She plays volleyball, loves Bad Bunny, and wants to be an engineer one day. I'm so relieved that she & her father are out, but they should have never been detained to begin with. We must close Dilley, end family detention, and abolish ICE.

A photo of Emely and her dad.

Golden State Valkyries forward Gabby Williams: “There’s a lot of discourse around trans athletes and what they can compete in. I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team. Anytime. I don’t think it’s a problem in the world, it’s just another way to kind of attack trans people.”

Worth noting that, like other things recently, part of the issue here is that cameras are being introduced in the absolutely worst way possible - with Flock, which shares indiscriminate data, is used for stalking, overrides local control - as the face of it

Driving a car is incredibly dangerous, it should be one of the most regulated experiences on earth, and it is very upsetting to watch people who correctly don’t trust the cops turn against automated enforcement because the alternative is relying on a cop’s judgement to enforce the laws.

An initiative on the ballot in Washington state in November would require all athletes seeking to play girl's sports from kindergarten to high school to undergo "genetic screening, a testosterone-levels test, or an examination of their reproductive anatomy" before they can play

The Campaign to Force Genital Exams on Girl Athletes Soon Washington State could require sex-verification tests for those playing sports in schools.
Portrait of Andrea González-Ramírez
By Andrea González-Ramírez, a senior writer for The Cut who covers systems of power. Those physicals, Maria explains, are usually perfunctory: “Like, Are you walking normally? Are you lightheaded? I have never had to take any clothes off. I’ve never felt uncomfortable or violated.” If IL26-638 were to pass and Maria were still in school, she says she would likely drop out of her team. (We’re withholding Maria’s real name to protect her privacy.) “I honestly don’t know if I would be able to do these tests,” she adds. “It would also make me question, If I do it, are all my teammates going to too? Or would I just play with the three or four girls who are willing to or have access to do it?”

Yes, stupid immoral assholes have done far too well for basically forever, but right now, it feels like being a stupid immoral asshole has become the ONLY way to do well. That is a problem.

It’s completely nuts that Trump won by less than 2M votes with near universal media help and worldwide rage at incumbents and the media treated this like a permanent sea change towards MAGA and now less than 2 years later he’s the least popular President in history and there’s no media reckoning

99% of the time, when someone accuses you of selective outrage, it’s a way of politically demobilizing you and shutting you up “Why are you angry about data centers instead of fast fashion” isn’t about making you care about fast fashion. It’s about shutting you up about data centers And visa versa

The media isn’t treating the regime’s refusal to release the Epstein Files as a scandal because Democrats and progressives aren’t driving any conflict around it. I don’t know why no one—besides the survivors themselves—is still pushing on this.

Wile E. Coyote, despaired, takes a bucket of paint and a brush and paints a beautiful two-bedroom house on a mountainside. He paints a beautiful coyote wife in the window, and two adorable coyote kids running around in the yard. He tries to enter this new coyote life, but it is inaccessible to him

If the people who cut USAID—causing many avoidable deaths—weren’t in a public panic about fertility rates while opposing immigration and blocking refugees but making special accommodations for white South Africans based on false conspiracy theories, that might be different. But, you know, context.

To me cutting USAID is like, you put a quarter into a slot every day to keep millions of people alive. You don’t have to do it but it causes you no hardship. Then one day the job falls to people who are overtly white supremacist and they decide to stop doing it. It is most obviously murder
