I remember years ago being really shocked by an ableist comment about her students that stock posted on social media, amid the transphobia. Well anyway now she’s publishing her negative views on disability in newspapers. Yet another “gender critical” unapologetically attacking women. #feminism

Solidarity with all trans and non-binary people today as the UK government brings into force the discriminatory and dangerous EHRC Code of Practice. The code, and the interpretation of the Equality Act that underpins gives license to segregation, harassment and violence. We must keep fighting.

Springer nature are a disaster. Strongly suggest boycotting their journals. They also publish racist analyses in their journals and refuse to do anything about it. This is even worse if it’s supposed to be open access. Bet the authors don’t get a share of any ad revenue

What is this new capitalistic hellscape the #academicpublishing industry is now enforcing?! To be able to read a paper that authors have paid to be published, and needs a subscription to be read, I have to either consent to trackers or pay for my privacy?! #academicchatter #research #MedSky #IDEpi

A screenshot of Springer Medicine with the option of continuing to enter the website by allowing trackers, or to have the option of not having ads and trackers then pay this amount of money.

Probably more helpful to think of them not so much as “Canadian wildfires” but rather “climate change wildfires currently consuming Canada”

Guaranteed: 1) Black girls will be harassed and demanded to be tested over and over again regardless of how competitive they are. 2) Winners from public schools will be relentlessly hounded by the parents and coaches of losers at private schools, with the goal of making them quit the sport.

The ban is heinous for what it does to transgender athletes. But if you think cisgender girls and young women won’t be caught up in the fallout, too, you are woefully ignorant

Andy Burnham has so far ✅said he supports the vile and hateful Mahmood reforms and briefed he may keep her as Home Sec ✅ said he want to use more migration detention centres ✅refused to describe what happened in Gaza as a genocide ✅ supported the EHRC’s segregation charter

The thing about this is I don’t really care about who we listen to per se, it can be from any region. Just please drop the social conservatism and stop trying to slash welfare. If it’s going to circle back to that stuff I don’t want to hear it, I’ve heard enough

When utilized in literature review, LLMs consistently 1. fail to mention female authors in female-led literatures, 2. insist that men are more influential or more heavily cited when this is contradicted by objective citation counts, and 3. attribute women’s work to hallucinated male scholars.

So the UK government didn’t leave X when it produced a deluge of abuse images including CSAM and now Starmer is lecturing us on child safety? What about holding social media companies to account?

In the broadest sense, the multi-faceted attack on trans lives is being litigated by a very small number of people who can’t accept the reality that trans people exist, have always existed, will always exist, and need some medical support and social acceptance in order to thrive.

Gut wrenching to see four young people jailed for direct action against an arms supplier to Israel. Years in prison for protesting to save lives in Gaza, with 'terrorism' used despite no jury convicting them of it. A truly dangerous attack on the right to protest.

The decision to conduct this review is based on politics and ideology, not science. Decades of gold-standard scientific evidence have overwhelmingly demonstrated the safety of mifepristone, including when it is provided using telehealth.

Exclusive: The FDA has launched a safety study of the abortion pill, also known as mifepristone, a step that could pave the way for the Trump administration to restrict how it is distributed and used.

Once again noting that the self declared “feminist” protectors of women (aka transphobes) say little to nothing about abortion rights and pal around with anti abortionists 🤔

Birth rate discourse is like “It turns out if you give women more choices, they’re less likely to make ones that make their lives harder.” Which is really helpful in figuring out how we can improve society somewhat. But instead people are like wow giving women more choices was a mistake

Pleased we have a green incumbent in my constituency who is excellent, makes it very easy to decide how to vote. (Though I have to go home to get ID for the polling station which will add pointless friction to my day…)

National Raise the Colours founder Ryan Bridge was arrested last night on Abingdon Road for public order offences. Bridge himself had called the police when an Oxford resident lay under his cherry-picker van. Mobile phone footage from local residents shows Bridge shouting “I’ve been arrested!”.
