I think about procedural/emergent narrative systems for games a lot. https://www.hypermagical.com/
"Where the argument breaks completely is at the moment of integration. The expensive part of a reset was never the asset. It was the dependency graph and the accumulated decisions stacked on top of it. Generating the replacement asset faster does nothing for either."
Louder for people in the back, "Art has throughput and quality bars. Engineering has velocity, defect rates, build health. QA has coverage and escape rates. Production has burndowns and forecasts... The decision layer has status updates." www.productionalchemist.com/p/inever-see...
I absolutely adore the cheeky 4th wall commentary in the Ostranauts tutorial...

On the other hand, my thesis for the Charlie Daniels Band's smash hit "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is that the Devil deliberately loses the contest because one catchy tune about how a mediocre fiddlist can out fiddle the devil is worth way more than a single fiddler's soul.

In the same way that being bitten by a werewolf make you a werewolf, arguing with an academic makes you an academic
"These young girls that are sitting at games with anti-trans signs, do they understand actually what the real problems are and how they’re being marginalized? We’re still not in a space where we have equality."
bought candy at the pool for a 13yo and she tried to give me cash. i was like nahh it's nbd, and she goes "girl i have seen your car." 13yo girls remain undefeated. you think you're talking to a child but you're actually talking to whatever gods used to send to punish mortals for their hubris
Since reading this I can't stop imagining all the sailors jumping out of the boat to their doom because they are trying to punch Statler and Waldorf
Akira side story manga about the guy Kaneda stole his bike from, trying to find it again as society collapses around him
I appreciate the mention of LLM chatbot style NPC conversations being largely a trap They take the ambiguity of a lot of parser based games then essentially remove all guidance towards meaning Sure you can interact with them indefinitely, but why would you want to
"Studios that realize the real goal shouldn't be to squeeze the human workforce but instead to harness technology to amplify that workforce's creative reach... those are going to be the ones that define the next decade of play." Read the whole article @ 80.lv - 80.lv/articles/gam...
Seeing the storyboards for "The Man Who Killed Batman" when I was 17 was one of the canon events that led me to change careers to animation
"The Man Who Killed Batman" is a BTAS masterpiece. Villains like the Joker and Rupert Thorne struggle to come to terms with Batman's apparent death at the hands of a no-name hoodlum. It's a well-produced episode and the Joker's angry, vain eulogy for Batman is an all-time moment for the character.
Date: What do you do? Me: I'm a kleptozoologist Date: Isn't it cryptozoologist? Me, stuffing my pockets with lobsters from the tank: that's a common misconception
advice for programmers: for most procedural generation you don't actually need "good" number generators! use whatever you like. it doesn't have to be cryptographically secure, it's the x, y position of a cactus.
The only memphis aesthetic I'm nostalgic for is the damn Memphis Milano let's go back to 1989 baby it's time for shapes and colors again
10-Cent Beer Night is the closest thing to a lord of the rings battle that has ever happened on a baseball field
the history of charging the mound, episode 6: LENNY RANDLE now free to watch on youtube youtu.be/RiQ-jr20CGA?...
This is, quite possibly, the best piece of game writing not supposed to be read in the whole of existance. #CavesOfQud
The sun would set right behind third base on our home field, blinding our middle infielders on the pivot. When we accidentally discovered the bounce pass it was like God speaking to Moses.
THAT SUN IS BRUTAL LET'S TRY A BOUNCE PASS
"Ethical romantasy" but ethical in the same sense as basketball fans talking about "ethical buckets". Just good, honest, salt of the earth orgasms. No flopping, no stepping back behind the line for a three, no looking for contact then doing a rip thru, just clean ball handling and a soft touch.
