Canada is not actually 'battling for survival' in the context of secession, because in both Alberta and Quebec secession has relatively small amounts of public support. What we're battling is dipshit far-right populist politicians enabling/pushing for this destructive bullshit.

Leaving Canada is effectively on the ballot in not one but two provinces: Alberta and Quebec. It can seem like Canada is battling for survival on multiple fronts, apparently out of nowhere. But there is more to the story. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...

“The Trump coalition is fracturing due to his peculiarly terrible misrule. Inflation, tariffs, and war are alienating working-class voters. His subjugation of the GOP into his own personal cult is alienating non-MAGA Republicans. His violent ethnic purges are driving away Latinos.”

Something big may be happening: Trump's world-historical misrule may be creating the conditions for the emergence of a coalition similar to the one that ousted Viktor Orban earlier this year: Anti-corruption, anti-authoritarian, pro-democracy. I made this case here: newrepublic.com/article/2161...

If a neighbouring country is sending political operatives from the ruling party into Canada to advise and assist separatists on how to promote and campaign for secession from Canada and providing them with technological and logistical support for their campaign, that country is no longer an ally.

New from me: separatist lawyer Jeffrey Rath has asked a court to withdraw additional funds frozen during a legal dispute with two First Nations former clients. The court said no, pending full disclosure of his assets. edmontonjournal.com/news/jeff_ra...

We’ve always known, but now it’s confirmed, that Danielle Smith’s separatist friends, including a sitting UCP president, have been conspiring to hand over Alberta’s land, oil and water to Donald Trump. Albertans deserve better than this weak leadership that hurts us all. https://tgam.ca/3Txh5Gt

SENATOR SLOTKIN: If you hear in the next 34 days that there is a new security threat that you’ve never heard of, that somehow requires federal law enforcement or the military and not local police, an alarm bell should go off in your brain. Do not let him get away with that

Yes, just like it’s SOP for the New York Times & CNN to treat both parties as normal pro-democracy parties & stenographize/platform presidents & White House staff. It is a broken model completely unsuited to a political world in which one party has collapsed into far right authoritarianism.

It's SOP for SIPA to hire any former Secretary of State they can attract. Mike Pompeo is a former Secretary of State, as was Hillary Clinton. That said, Marco Rubio's shot at a gig as a Visiting Professor of Professional Practice at SIPA is not looking too promising....
