Full-sized SUVs are pedestrian killers. New research finds that they're more than twice as likely to kill or seriously injure a pedestrian than other cars. (Notably, vehicle height—not weight—was the biggest risk factor.) doi.org/10.1016/j.js...

I don't doubt that AI horror stories are contributing to this but it also seems like every major tech CEO is a Nazi these days so why would this industry feel remotely inviting?
US/UK data. Guess Big Tech announcing AI would replace developers did affect something.
This is genocidal rhetoric from the president of the United States. Trump explicitly stated that if Dems win the midterms, “Transgender will never end.” The stated goal of the president of the United States and his party is to make transgender people “end.”
Someday soon hes going to be over and trans folk will continue to exist and, hopefully, thrive, for as long as there are humans on this planet.
This is an absolutely catastrophic data breach of an identity verification vendor 150+ million drivers license scans that includes photos, address, license numbers etc. It includes Pete Hegseth, security researchers, and even the deputy director of the FBI. krebsonsecurity.com/2026/09/fbi-...
This would affectively turn post office distribution centres into count centres during election periods.
This is pretty fucking wild. I had assumed in a worst case scenario he would target blue zip codes and toss ballots based on technicalities but this is even worse than I imagined.
It’s this Sartre quote - Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves,
"If you don't use asbestos, it's because you don't care about fire safety"
If you're not using asbestos yet, you are being left behind. Everyone is using asbestos, there's no point in trying to fight it. Asbestos is the future.
I love that this is how I found out Starmer stepped down as an MP
Can't get a moment's peace on this bloody planet.
You'll forgive me if I don't believe Fianna Fáil will do anything to make Irish roads safer #spéirgorm
Lmaooooooooooo what is wrong with whoever Bouie is talking to? This is a well-established fact. Everybody knows this. “Woke” has meant “stay woke” for Black people for generations prior to the present day “woke.” Like that’s just a historical fact, why would you feel the need to gloss over it?
this is a pretty wild exchange with someone seemingly in a moderator position
Did they need to do this because they found out it disqualified their director?
Imagine having enough cases of bestiality in your recruits that you have to loosen hiring rules to get enough of them in.
Simple electric strips across the road can detect direction of travel.
100% this. It would be like saying that someone who didn't test the brake pedal and steering wheel in newly delivered cars were "failing to be kept under control" when driven, rather than that the manufacturer was incredibly reckless while building it with predictable results.
Journalists need to stop describing these incidents in terms implying software has agency and intent. It does not. The people who created a faulty and dangerous product are the ones responsible for whatever happens, and must be held to account, with punitive financial penalties for damage done.
30km/h defaults in towns and cities. Traffic cameras at junctions and main roads. Regulation of social media companies. That's what we want. What we get is AI and high-viz vests.

This is set up for laughs, but it’s actually one of the best demonstrations I’ve seen of how being capable of producing convincing sounding language and understanding meaning are two completely different things. A chatbot does not understand you, it just has automated responses based on your words.

I keep thinking, they can't be this cartoonishly evil, can they? And then
Republican lawmakers have quietly cut funding for Dolly Parton’s children’s book charity, Imagination Library, which sends free books to children across the world.
If you want to know why people get touchy around the helmet discourse, this is it. Elected officials who do not know the difference between different classes of legal e-bikes and who also can't distinguish them from illegal e-motos probably shouldn't also be writing bicycle helmet laws.
New Jersey just passed a requirement for helmet use for all e-bikes, including those limited to 20 mph. I think it will be a stepping-stone to requiring helmets for all bicycles.
“We took the children off the roads. In 1971, 80% of seven and eight year olds got to school on their own. By 1990 it was 9%, and the fall has not stopped: more children are driven than ever, and cycling to school still barely registers. We did not defeat the danger. We surrendered to it.”
A cycling city isn’t really about bikes. It’s a fairer city, built around people instead of cars. i do think a lot of mainstreamers have missed the ball on how musk has moved past "rich guy with funny opinions on race science" and into "literally just a nazi"
the coming european reconquista
Had to ghost someone after a couple of successful dates, their Dad popped up on my Facebook and he spends all day sharing AI slop about immigrants. Sorry, you were quite nice, but I'm not spending Christmas listening to that shit.
This is obviously 100% correct, but also it shows how the specific target of racism shifts over time - people on small boats, asylum-seekers generally, E.European workers, care workers, Albanians, Muslims - but it’s always, always a proxy for objections to any migration or racial diversity at all
I can't believe the amount of recent history revisionism in the UK. Response to Polish immigration was so severe that it successfully led to Brexit. BREXIT. And tanked British economy. This happened last decade, you can just Google it.
For fucking years, people of every marginalization have yelled that a person is never just one kind of bigot. And now the Cofnas support letter, signed by notorious transphobes and sexual predators and eugenicists, proving their point once again. You'd think at some point people would listen.
This would very much make Sex and the City the antithesis of The Smurfs...
the important thing to realise about sex and the city is that before this show people thought there was one, maybe at most two types of women. it was actually really revolutionary to posit that there could be four
The whole culture is rotten. I was in a startup incubator for a while and in the very first meeting, we were told we were special people. It's bonkers.
It’s worse than this. Having been in the room with many of them (long ago, before I knew they were psychopaths), the tycoons who are left running the industry have an active contempt for ordinary people, including their own workers. They actively want to oppress, control and punish them.
