Das mitunter deprimierendste am Umgang mit der Klimakrise ist: Wenn man mit Umweltökonomen spricht, sagen die: "Das wäre alles locker machbar, wenn der politische Wille da wäre". Auch ohne große Einbußen für den Wohlstand. Einfach nur ordentlich besteuern & regulieren.
Aber je länger wir warten oder gar zurückrudern, desto drastischer werden in Zukunft die Maßnahmen sein müssen. Und irgendwann ist es halt zu spät. Das ist alles so unnötig, dass es weh tut.

absolutely flabbergasting to see people who have so enthusiastically succumbed to despair. like okay denethor, but some of us are gonna actually face the armies of mordor in battle nonetheless.

The thing about Denethor is that he not only succumbed to despair, he wanted to ensure that Faramir succumbed with him. Similarly, a lot of people now are not only succumbing to despair, they're actively proselytizing despair, trying to convince others to join them in their hopelessness. Despair is apparently lonely and they want company in their self-immolation.

btw denethor succumbed to despair bc he was doomscrolling on the palantir. Sauron tweaked his algorithm so he only saw bad news, and he fell into the trap of thinking the world couldn't be saved.

Been seven years since I first read this, on the English language's *completely universal but totally invisible* adjective hierarchy, and I can honestly say I've thought about it most days since.

Adjectives in English absolutely have to be in this order: opinion-size-shape-colour-origin-material-purpose Noun. So you da. Have a lovely little old rectangular green French silver whittling knife. But if you mess with that word order in the slightest you'll sound like a maniac. It's an odd thing that every English speaker uses that list, but almost none of us could write it out. And since since comes before colour, green great dragons can't exist."

Das Motiv ist in zwei Bereiche geteilt. Oben erkennt man Bundesfinanzminister Lars Klingbeil und Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz vergnügt an einem Konferenztisch mit Getränken und Arbeitsmaterial.
