If you read fiction and you don't like AI you're a hypocrite. If you eat monster munch and don't like asbestos you're a blacksmith. If you play videogames and don't like stubbing your toe you're a submarine captain. We can all just SAY things. It's not hard.

This 'Middle Age' DLC sucks. All my stats are nerfed except Wisdom, but that's fairly useless now because without the others I can't actually do anything with it. And there's no way back to the main game! I'm stuck here forever apparently, unless I try the other DLC, but I hear that's even worse.
From Barry Cryer telling it himself! As here, from 9m30s. Needless to say, if he's just inserted himself into an existing event for storytelling purposes, I'm even more delighted. m.soundcloud.com/britishcomed...

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
I am working through the #strudel tutorial and srsly where has this been all my life: https:// strudel.cc/workshop/getting-started/ Thank you lovely strudel people!

Imagine going, “yeah we’ll need to shred a load of books” and then not going, “oh no that’s, like, fucking wrong”. Imagine being that person.
Not once in this entire political biography of Phillipson does the Guardian note that she signed off on a society-wide toilet police regime to spite trans people www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

This tech with no genuine use cases other than for bosses, shoddy marketers, politicians, thieves and con-artists will be the death of us all.
mildly funny that X is having blazing rows about Nolan’s Odyssey because he cast black people in it and Bluesky is having blazing rows about whether a noted Homeric translator’s LRB review of it misses the point or not
I uploaded a new comic. First of the year, For Reasons. Anyway, it's here: comic.conniptions.org/comics/800.h... Vaguely related blogpost here: www.conniptions.org/2026/07/27/f... Why yes, this is the 800th FatC comic. Should be up to more by now but I've been being slack.
Fit and the Conniptions
Fit and the Conniptions is a webcomic by Wayne Myers, who by complete coincidence also has a band called Fit and the Conniptions. The two projects are, naturally, entirely unrelated.

I didn't know you could study Classics at university until I arrived at university and met people who were studying Classics. I think about this often.
As *tech*, AI isn't exceptional. It's not exceptionally wicked. It's not exceptionally good. Take away the accompanying, galactic-scale stock-swindle, and we'd call AI's apps "plug-ins" and we'd use them and abuse them in the same way that we've used every other technology: www.normaltech.ai 1/
💯💯💯 If it was really "inevitable," they wouldn't have to try so hard.
I know it seems like the fight against AI is really uphill but I want to remind you at one point, people went really hard for NFTs, including $69.3 million for one by Beeple at a Christie's auction in 2021, but now almost no one buys them.
Oh wow did OpenAI make a fantastical, unsubstantiated claim about what its software can do, a thing they lie about constantly, that left gullible journalists talking about how powerful and important their product is? Wild.
Some thoughts on mourning 🧵 There is a Hasidic story from my childhood that has been on my mind over the past few weeks - and, well, years. For centuries, kids would throw fuzzy burrs at mourners who cried too deeply on Tisha B’Av. Mourning has its place. But let’s not let it consume us. 1/7
How are we verifying this account? It's got a bsky handle, for a start
A very warm welcome to Downing Street, Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
no, but you know who are conscious? The immigrants held in ICE concentration camps.
Could AI be conscious?
Messi is like the soft-spoken gang boss who says things like, “While I personally abhor violence, some of my associates may be less fastidious.”
BBC panel talking about the post-whistle Argentina scrap taking a moment to talk about Messi being gracious in defeat and, ngl, as a tourist, I feel like that guys gets way too much of a free pass

Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2
