Thank you, @exploratorium.bsky.social. More museums should follow suit. (And for more than a couple hours in one exhibition space.)
San Francisco’s Exploratorium will require N95 or KN95 masks during special morning hours designed for immunocompromised visitors.
I don't know why I chose to post this on here at five minutes after midnight, I must have just been excited
Here's Lisa's review of Claudia Rankine's latest book Triage (out today!). If you're interested, you know who you are, and if you aren't interested in Claudia Rankine's latest book, well, then we don't know what to tell you, uh, good luck with that #booksky
And if you are angry about the Covid revisionism about the first year of the pandemic that’s happening in Congress and on news shows, consider whether you’ve done some revising of your own in the second, third, fourth, fifth, and sixth years.
There is a reason why they think you're one of them. Grow up. Be better than this. Quit being an asshole. We ask you to do the bare minimum and don't support a company that spreads transphobia, and you responded with this:
So that’s the thing to know, if you’re a tabloid that’s going to name-check me in another round of transphobic shit about Bluesky discourse. I don’t stand with you. I stand with my trans friends and family members. ⏹️
The Bolaño character who said that poems are homosexual, short stories are bisexual, and novels are heterosexual was wrong. I mean, everyone knows poems are gay and short stories are bi (novellas even more so - have you considered being a novel? one asks), but novels are just generally queer
If you believe this, and I hope you do, there is nothing stopping you from continuing to protect your vulnerable neighbors by wearing masks in crowded and indoor spaces, especially necessary spaces like healthcare facilities, grocery stores, and public transportation. Absolutely nothing.
Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

today is the last day of #DisabilityPrideMonth. if my autoimmune self can ask anything of you, reader—especially if: you are able bodied; you see yourself as caring for disabled rights—is to familiarize yourself w the disability advocacy that’s been happening these pandemic years, indeed, right now.

in fact i'd say that those of us who know the consequences acute&chronic illness can have—often due to personal experience—& thus promote use of mitigation tools are the ppl furthest from imagining a world like 2019 again. things have changed; we are both aware of & acting to address our 2026 needs.
But if I wasn’t clear I don’t know anyone who thinks we’re “a few masks & lockdowns away from 2019.” But I know a lot of ppl who understand the horror of Long Covid, the risk of endless repeat infections, & the easily accessed benefits of air quality upgrades in schools, masks in healthcare,

just my two immunosuppressed cents but I think a big part of that “dealing badly with” includes referring to that trauma as past tense and not acknowledging it as something that is still being actively inflicted on some of the most marginalized people imaginable
One of my Crank Theories of Everything, at least of Everything in the Recent Past, is that we are dealing (badly) with COVID trauma we’d mostly prefer to pretend never happened.

We will be ready to have a real discussion about Covid when we accept the fact that “the vulnerable will fall by the wayside,” said by Fauci, under Biden, was eugenicist policy.
I appreciate people reckoning with this, but the real truth is it is still happening. Long covid affects tens of millions of people in the US, people are still getting it, people are still dying from covid every week, and our determination to insist it is in the Recent Past Is part of the problem.
I thought people were talking about being in the 7th year of the pandemic as a technicality, like because Covid-19 was first documented in 2019, but it turns out I actually just forgot how to count and how numbers work "It's 2026, so it's the 6th year since..." *literally counts on fingers* "Ohhhh"
White critics and academics can be successful without thinking critically about race and racism, so they often don't until they believe it can get them clout, and then they take a big clumsy swing and miss
