This has happened to me a few times back in the early 2000s. Once, there were no white people on the staff in emergency. I had to wait for someone to turn up, who was junior. They took the history, did the examination, and then had to find me anyway to check their work and make a plan.

The NHS is not obliged to treat these people. It has a policy of Zero Tolerance of abuse directed at staff, which includes racism. It’s not a ‘50% Tolerance’ policy or even a ‘95% Tolerance’ policy. It’s zero. news.sky.com/story/nhs-st...

'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

An embroidery hoop containing a sewn landscape from above. It shows a forest on the right, a line of fire and charred ground with smoke on the left. The smoke is felted wool.

If you believe this, and I hope you do, there is nothing stopping you from continuing to protect your vulnerable neighbors by wearing masks in crowded and indoor spaces, especially necessary spaces like healthcare facilities, grocery stores, and public transportation. Absolutely nothing.

Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

The medical guidance on dealing with Covid has never changed for immunocompromised or high-risk people. It has always been to wear a mask in crowded and indoor spaces. People will literally yell at kids with cancer and the rest of polite society goes “oh well, personal responsibility…”

People are complaining that for two hours in the early morning on one single day, the Exploratorium in San Francisco will require respirator masks. Never mind that this allows disabled and immune compromised kids to safely share in something they’re otherwise excluded from. Fuck them kids.
