Crafting the Witch

Just here to scream into the void. Sometimes I make things. She/they. Pagan witch. Autistic w/ a double scoop of C-PTSD.

Fae: “Tell us your true name.” Me: “…Just my name? No birthdate, no SSN, no fingerprint scan, no address, no mother’s maiden name? Are you sure you’ve even got the right Olivia Waite? There’s like six.” Fae: “What the hell kind of bargains have you been making?” Me: “They call it health insurance.”

My bag of chios mastic broke, and I had to sort the little resin tears from the bits of mugwort and sage that had fallen to the bottom of the incense bin. So I got a lil tray and a business card... and I'd like to thank the stoners in my life for preparing me for this moment.

I learned a new term: Epistemic Trespassing It’s when an expert makes claims in a field where they don’t have the relevant expertise and pass judgment anyway. This is why we have tech bros on the verge of tanking the economy, a “businessman” as president and men in charge of women’s healthcare.

I still fucking believe this. I think we all need to accept that practice is essential to self improvement, that means accepting you cannot be perfect. You have to make mistakes to learn or grow. Your perfectionism will never serve you, it’s a trap.

I think we haven’t sufficiently discussed the allure of AI to people who struggle with literally disabling levels of perfectionism. And instead of learning coping skills or developing self esteem, they’re outsourcing to a machine that burns down hectares of rainforest.

I have hit one of those times in my life where suddenly everything is synched up and going full speed ahead. I know that when times are like this I am copiloted by the Gods and can feel my Agathodaimon close. I have learned to hold the reins and ride through these Chariot times. (whee!)

men when christopher nolan casts a non-white actor: that is not ACCURATE they were all WHITE men when emily wilson points out christopher nolan’s inaccuracies: oh come on it’s just a film it can’t be 100% faithful to the original

Everyone coming on my feed and explaining to me that all is lost, I note what I have noted before, that there are no Negro Spirituals entitled, “Welp, I Guess It All Sucks and I Am Giving Up.”

The only good thing to come out of the dipshit Odyssey discourse is that at one point I commented “if we’re worried about accuracy, then Jason Mantzoukas should be playing Odysseus,” and now I can’t get it out of my head 😄

Impressively-Greek-looking Mantzoukas with long, wild hair and crazy beard, wearing a leather jacket and laughing at something off-camera.

The knowledge that the Editor in Chief of Science, while writing his article "AI in scientific publishing: Slower, worse and more expensive" is doing so from inside a bubble so opaque that he believes chatbots are the only way "anyone" searches for anything anymore, is uhhhh extremely sobering

Hi, this is Holden emerging from my Bluesky hiatus to tell everyone that when checking the links in the piece, I used ChatGPT as my search engine (does anyone use Google anymore?). The piece was written by me and edited by humans. So all the links were checked by me and again by our copyeditors.

A $27 plant stand from Lowe's, some assembly, a hand towel, and a local-artisan-made ceramic salad bowl, and I have a lustral waters station for the home ritual space that does not require dismantling, cleaning, and resetting my incense offering tripod every bloody time. Yay!
