I thought this was a good thread and incidentally I don't think the dysfunction it's naming maps on to whatever left / liberal divide there is. Plenty of credulity *and* bad judgment to go around! (And I do think this is something on which this platform became a real echo chamber)

I'd thought everyone understood that we're not in an era of great or even good politicians or politics. We're not even in an era of *mediocre* politicians or politics. Politics has become such a disgusting enterprise that every voter makes big accommodations just to pick anyone.
