Somebody asked me on Reddit why people who use AI to generate Recomp projects are currently being rejected from the communities and what they can do to fix this. I might tweak parts of this to be a more general blog post at some point, but this should be of help to anyone in a similar situation.

What a great piece of writing here. I’be been feeling something similar to a note Abram hits: surrendering ourselves to the experience at hand regardless of whether or not it’s actually resonating can be meaningful and additive. Immersion and exposure can bring us closer to an experience, bonding ♥️

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's excess is as unmistakable as it is endearing. A moving, messy journey that accumulates feeling through its best and, more importantly, its most tedious episodes. I love this game, and I'd love it if you checked this out! medium.com/@abrambuehne...

Apple charges people ~20% more than the Patreon list price and they keep the difference for themselves. They also hold the proceeds of iOS app sales for 75 days, making it impossible for creators to accurately predict earnings. They basically inserted themselves in order to rip *more* people off

Any of you using the ios version of Patreon to support me, switch to the browser version instead, cuz the apple fees have actually taken over 3000 usd from me in the course of a year

I truly feel for kids growing up now who will have to unlearn using AI, but if you've been writing for more than 2 years it is the easiest thing in the world to just Keep Doing The Thing You Did and ignore AI tools!! It makes me feel crazy that people act like this isn't the case!!!

it's actually sad as hell to use AI for research when research is the fun part. you can just email people and call them on the phone and ask them questions about the thing that they have expertise in. you can read documents & learn cool shit. ok now i'm just talking about how being a reporter is fun

hm yes let’s ignore BDS and review both the most perfunctory AND most microsoft thing possible, halo. Surely that will save games criticism.

this is one of my favourite things to do with mobygames and it's why I submit credits for indie games to it fairly regularly. you can learn a lot by tracking career trajectories or comparing staff between sequels.

What does it mean when we say a game studio is responsible for multiple games over many years? Can we really say the artist is the same each time? https://kotaku.com/when-is-retro-studios-no-longer-retro-studios-2000717235

Despite being part of the "I started a YouTube channel before @jasonschreier.bsky.social" club, I still want more people in the games industry should start their own channels. There's a huge gap for experienced folks sharing their knowledge and helping balance the sea of uninformed fan commentary.

gamers being so poisoned with the pursuit of sorting companies or corporations into good and naughty lists has lead to the exact insanity of this moment as they try to reconcile every large studio and publisher being fucking awful to their employers in the same way regardless of their output

If a team makes a game that gets great reviews and doesn't sell, that's a biz failing but the silver lining is you caught lighting in a bottle -- protect that team! It's worth its weight in gold. If you jettison the team but keep the biz people, I don't know what to tell you

Good mocap performance is gold, but data often doesn't transfer perfectly onto a rig. Mocap animators have to look at a performance & exaggerate, enhance, recreate & translate what that performance is to something that has the right intent/movement that will work in scene and on the final character.

Andy Serkis has always been a jerk even back when he started getting big, by trying to shortchange and downplay the hard work of VFX artists and animators to try to glorify himself. Saying that his mocap performances were just "digital make up" instead of celebrating that creative collaboration.

Games Done Quick is such an unfettered source of pure good, distilled into the most concentrated essence. A motivating beacon for people to show the power of coming together and rallying around an important cause. A powerful moment that underscores the desire to help in all of us. GDQ forever.
