Republics are systems that require people to compromise with each-other.

The coalition of people who vote for Democrats is broader than some people realize. The core of the coalition is an amalgamation of white liberals and black and brown moderates. And, in the last few years, it’s expanded with the addition of a lot of white former Republican voters.

It's pretty infuriating that Trump is denying disaster aid to Oregon for political reasons and I have barely heard anything about it, while Biden was falsely accused of doing the exact same thing to North Carolina and millions of people believed that

This is an excellent post on the analytic capabilities of LLMs. I think it is important in thinking through this to understand the limits of what LLMs can do, and avoid assuming that LLMs will soon be able to do things that they cannot do. But they can use known methods to solve novel problems.

Fields medalist @wtgowers.bsky.social on how large language models are improving, and the dangers this poses. "I would judge the level of the result that ChatGPT found in under two hours to be that of a perfectly reasonable chapter in a combinatorics PhD." gowers.wordpress.com/2026/05/08/a...

Reiterating that Musk's literal voter bribery last time was an unambiguous go-directly-to-jail felony, for which people have been successfully prosecuted over vastly smaller amounts. It wasn't just pouring money into a PAC, whatever one thinks of that. It was a black-letter plain-as-day crime.

Yes, Elon Musk’s Vote-Buying Is Against the Law

People have gone to prison for comparable schemes.

This Roman ring, wishing good life to Senicianus, was found in Silchester. It’s now on display in The Vyne. Its fame derives from the archaeologist Mortimer Wheeler consulting Tolkien on it in the ‘20s. Tolkien was inspired by the idea of a lost cursed ring & the rest is literary history. 🕰️C4thAD

When Elon Musk says "zero" children died in Africa from his DOGE cuts, he really means zero children died who are *worthy of any concern.* It's vile coded signaling to his global fascist audience. From me and @polphilpod.bsky.social, a deep dive into Musk's fascism: newrepublic.com/article/2135...

The Real Reason Elon Musk Keeps Insisting DOGE Cuts Killed “Zero” Kids

In his explosive interview with The Economist, the SpaceX billionaire inadvertently revealed something darker about his true vision for the future—and about his affinities with global fascism.
