Some people might not be aware, but it is entirely possible that without Dolly Parton we wouldn’t have had a COVID vaccine. She partly funded Moderna’s research and gave the largest individual contribution to make it all happen. Just gives you an idea of the kind of person she was.
Sometimes, when someone dies, what helps me is thinking about how wonderful it is that they were even alive in the first place. Dolly was the closest you could get to an American saint. We all loved her.
Between this, and the children’s hospital that she funded in Knoxville, that I believe was recently named after her, although she hesitated on that for a long time because she didn’t want the recognition, she has saved countless lives.
Dr. Lucky Tran@luckytran.com · 2mo agoDolly Parton supported so many important causes, among them donating a million dollars to COVID vaccine research early in the pandemic, which saved millions of lives. She will always be remembered as a champion of the people.

no one has ever had, or will ever have, a better creative day than Dolly Parton writing Jolene and I Will Always Love You on the same day
She wrote a handful of the greatest songs ever written, and the first thing so many people think of is not those towering achievements, but how good a person she was and how many people’s lives she improved

This is gutting. There are few people universally beloved. Dolly Parton is one. She made our country a better place. I've dreaded this day because of the unique way she was admired and loved by so many different people. We'll grieve together now, and it's an awful feeling. people.com/dolly-parton...

Great news everyone! New Jersey finally passed a trans healthcare shield law. It becomes the final blue state left to pass such a law. This will help fight back against out of state subpoenas targeting gender-affirming care providers and patients. Subscribe to support our journalism.

GOOD NEWS! A personalized mRNA vaccine, known as mRNA-4157, has shown promise in keeping melanoma, a deadly skin cancer, from returning. FIVE years later, NEARLY 70% of people in the vaccine group are CANCER-FREE. The vaccine also cut a person’s risk of the cancer metastasizing by NEARLY 60%.

I’m not going to repost video of LAPD shooting a dog. Instead, I’ll point this out. Again. You can become a cop in California with such little training it’s insane. The number below are grand totals. The basic firearms course is only 24 hours. Barbers require more training to use scissors.
Adam Rose@adamrose.bsky.social · last yr.The are multiple and nuanced reasons why police have been out of control during ICE protests in Los Angeles. Here's a simple one. In California, police are required to have less training than dental assistants, cosmetologists, barbers, acupuncturists. 🧵👇
