I don't think people understand how thin the line between "deportation" and "extermination" really is - not just in Europe, but everywhere the topic comes up. Many people feel comfortable with the idea of deportation because it obscures the underlying violence that is necessarily implied.

And to spell it out: when DHH says "deport Romani people", those are people who are citizens of the country they live in. Where would they be deported to? When the Nazis ran into this same question, they created extermination camps. bsky.app/profile/anil...

The son of the man shot and killed by ICE: I am Ronaldo Salgado, the oldest son of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. He should've been picking up the last of his guys before heading to finish up construction. Unbeknownst to all of us, my dad had been shot inside his van by ICE agents in unmarked cars.

The sheer injustice in Houston is sickening. Lorenzo was just going to work to support his family when his life was stolen by ICE. Seeing his father on his knees, consumed by raw, agonizing grief, is a heartbreaking reminder of the human cost of systemic violence. He deserves justice.

As ICE captures spike across the US, re-upping this story about Habeas Flight Watch, an activist-built tool to help you know when an ICE flight is headed to your city. Can help legal teams/community members triage habeas filings, flight observations, etc. gillianbrockell.com/habeas-fligh...

Habeas Flight Watch: New tool helps track ICE flights to your city

Activists have been quietly piloting a live map of ICE flights to help immigration attorneys with habeas filings. Now they say it's ready for everyone to use.

I don’t think "Dem HR ladies" is labor coded or working class aligned. It comes from the same place everything that is terrible in the last two years has come from. The backlash to the Me Too and Black Lives Matter movements.

I cannot explain to you how deeply terrifying and anger-inducing it is to have cops and national guard marching down your street after dark and despite constantly posting about occupied Memphis no one gives a shit. yes, I mean my actual street where I live. I live posted it.

there's (rightfully) been a lot of attention paid to la, chicago, minneapolis, and dc, but the the joint federal-local task force in memphis is uniquely horrifying in ways not seen in other cities. this is at least the fourth person shot during the task force's monthslong occupation.

NYU professor Philip Alston, a UN special rapporteur studying poverty and human rights, says he was shocked at the level of environmental degradation in some areas of rural Alabama, saying he had never seen anything like it in the developed world.

U.N. Official Shocked at Poverty in Rural Alabama

"I think it's very uncommon in the First World. This is not a sight that one normally sees. I'd have to say that I haven't seen this."

Just to put a fine point on it: @scottwiener.bsky.social cancelled an interview about his accusations of antisemitism with about a sympathetic figure one can find on the center left. Also this is being polled around town. Wait till he refuses to answer questions about his Palestine censorship work.

Very disappointed that @Scott_Wiener cancelled our interview. I had hoped to give him what the hecklers at the Trans march didn't: The chance to thoughtfully answer people critical of his views on Israel-Palestine. On an issue this weighty, avoiding hard questions isn't good politics. Nor does it show moral courage.

Scott Wiener can't be trusted. He refused to call Israel's actions in Gaza a genocide for two vears as tens of thousands of Palestinians were killed, starved or forced from their homes. even visiting Israel during this time to meet with their President. Then, he flip-flopped calling it a genocide only after being called out at a public forum.

I will categorically say that the answer to the question of "does X country have a right to commit genocide" is always no. That's not a thing you get to do, and if you're claiming that your right to exist is incompatible with not getting to commit genocide, you should try harder.

He killed so many children with drones. He didn’t prosecute any of the war criminals from the previous admin. And this isn’t a war crime but it was a crime against our society to bail out the banks and not make the system take accountability for what they had done to us

The post was to honor Barrack Obama, a great president and man. The people claiming he’s a war criminal are fucking tiring, just house cats making judgement without a clue of the world. He inherited that war and was left with no choice. Had he stopped, people would have lost their minds.

The Liberals have used their newly acquired majority to push through major changes to Canada’s laws at the last minute and shut down debate on legislation with major implications for the lives of Canadians. This is not normal. This is what happens when a government thinks it can act with impunity.

the current geopolitical situation is bad for everybody but I do hope the Israelis waking up to what Americans have known-- that Trump is a deranged moron who shouldn't be counted upon for anything but to shit his pants and fuck everything up-- stay woke
