I am still waiting for a journalist to ask these people why they think it's OK to touch children without their consent. It is the fundamental question that this entire "debate" hangs on, and no-one will ask it. Remarkable.

This is a huge problem, especially when it comes to former politicians and PR people masquerading as opinion columnists and appearing on panel shows as supposed independent observers, without revealing who their clients at the time are.

there are no restrictions whatsoever on political spending in Ireland outside the electoral and referendary processes. if you want to pay people to campaign on a political issue here, there is no requirement to publicly disclose that. you don't have to file accounts or register anywhere, nothing

Maybe putting the Internet into ABSOLUTELY F**KING EVERYTHING wasn't a great idea after all. Spoiler: A lot of modern farming and agriculture (esp dairy) is hugely reliant on tech now. I hope their security systems are up to scratch.

Babe, wake up, they're trying to manufacture a "new" child consent scandal. The Irish Daily Mail has dug into the archives and resurrected a story about former President McAleese's book "The Baptism Bluff" (published in January) as a "new" outrage over whether children can consent to baptism.

Mary McAleese says baptising a baby is a breach of human rights because the child can't consent. With respect, that's wrong. Parents make decisions for their children every single day. What school they go to. What values they're raised with. What they eat, what they wear, who minds them. A baby can't consent to any of it. That's what being a parent is. Faith is no different. If parents want to have their child christened, that's their call. If they'd rather not bring their child into any religion, that's their call too. It's a decision for the family, and nobody else. Every child grows up and makes up their own mind. Plenty do. Families in this country have enough to be worrying about without being told that bringing their child to be christened is a human rights abuse. Leave parents alone. Let them raise their children as they see fit.
