I think I've put enough structures in place in my classes that I'm not going to bother hunting AI work. There are consequences, they are clear and they are drastic, but if I catch you, well, you get the hammer, and if I don't, you're wasting your money and your potential and your education.
This! Once you steal all the existing analysis and feed it into the machine and tell everyone to use the machine, where will the new analysis come from?

But if all the grants start going to AI at the expense of everything else then the research sector is going to end up looking like a farm with dozens of threshers hacking away in a field with no wheat.

just got an email from my (former) chair that the university has acted & the state has approved the formal closure of my department. this was done without any faculty input on the decision or the process, & has ended a vibrant, growing (!), humanities department that won teaching and research awards

I know it’s a weird thing to say. But I saw both Labyrinth and Legend in the theater when I was 7 and I was never the same human again as I was before. Those movies came out two months apart, by the way. Nobody asked 1986 to go as hard as it did. 1986 didn’t give a fuck it came to party.
